After the storms passed through the Metro Detroit area this afternoon, reports of possible tornadic damage was coming out of the Livonia neighborhoods, which is not far from where I live. I went there, and found what appears to be tornado damage in the area of 6 Mile Road and Farmington Road. The NWS is giving the damage a preliminary tornado rating of an EF-1. The NWS will have a crew accessing the damage most likely tomorrow morning and will determine if this was a tornado or atrocious microburst.
There was some injuries from the storm, and unfortunately, a young child died from their injuries in the storm. My thoughts go out to the child’s family and the first responders for that call.

There is a very high likelihood of seeing the Aurora Borealis tonight for much of the country! The last time the forecast was this high was back in 2003. I’ll be heading up to Port Austin soon. The best timing looks to be from dusk until midnight. If you’re in the city and want to see the lights, head out to the areas with as little light pollution as possible! If the Aurora Borealis is very bright, I will be sharing on here.
