Every 6 weeks features a new artist at their shop. I have the honor of hanging some nature prints, which will be on display until May 13th. I am selling these prints with/without frames and the proceeds will go directly to our neighbors. For the last 4 months, we have been raising funds to support our neighbors who have been impacted by ICE. Some folks have been able to return to work, but for others, it still isn’t safe to do so. ICE continues to show up at work sites and threaten the safety and wellbeing of so many people. We will continue to show up for our neighbors and provide support, and right now, that support looks like assisting with May rent and expenses. Please considering donating, purchasing a print, or sharing this post. We also need to show up for our local businesses. Duck Duck Coffee is our favorite shop for many reasons- they have delicious coffee and food, but also the best people. This shop does so much for so many communities and they make this neighborhood what it is. We are so proud to be their neighbor-friends and so grateful for everything they do. Show up for your favorite local shops and explore new ones! Continue to build, strengthen and care your community.

The prints featured are available for purchase at . If you don’t live in the area and would like to buy a print to support our neighbors, then please comment below or send me a message. I can mail you a print or sell you a digital copy.

Lastly, thank you all for your continued support. I appreciate this community so much. And Happy Earth Day. Take care of our planet and each other. 🌱

I am donating a family photo session to a mutual aid fundraiser organized by the incredible mutual aid group here in South Minneapolis, The fundraiser is on Thursday, Aril 23 6:30-9:00pm at . There will be a raffle, silent auction, and live music! All of the money raised will be used to support families in our community.

Juntos Podemos (Together We Can) was founded in Jan 2026 by brother and sister .gavilan and both small business owners. They organized this mutual aid group in response to Operation Metro Surge. ICE has been terrorizing our city, state and country, and our communities are still impacted.

I often think about trees and how they mutually care for each other through their root systems - communicating, sharing nutrients, water, and carbon, especially when one is sick or struggling. I think about the symbiotic relationships within a forest - how trees, fungi, microbes, birds, and insects are all interconnected - mutually benefiting from one another. Moving as a collective. Over the past few months, I have seen, felt, and experienced the collective support and strength of people coming together - rooting ourselves, standing strong, moving together, sharing nutrients, and protecting and defending each other, especially those who are vulnerable and targeted. Acting as a collective - like the trees.

While some aspects of the federal occupation have quieted here in the Twin Cities, ICE agents are still here, and they are a dangerous and harmful threat. People are still struggling, targeted, and trying to repair and recover from all the damage, pain, and trauma this has caused. People are still being targeted, kidnapped, and separated from their families. People still need support. Dane and I are continuing to work with our neighbors to support families who haven’t been able to work or leave their homes. We have received generous contributions from so many of you, and we couldn’t assist these families without your support. As we approach April, we are trying to raise more money for our neighbors to help them cover some upcoming expenses. We are prioritizing families with urgent needs - single mothers, families with medical expenses, parents who are unable to work, and a father who is detained. We’re asking that you please consider donating to these families so we can assist them with their expenses, and/or please share with your communities/networks.

I share this excerpt from the book, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants, by Robin Wall Kimmerer (see post), to remind us that, like the trees, we are a collective. We need each other, especially right now. Let’s continue to show up for each other through collective care and mutual support. We appreciate you.

As we look ahead we are preparing to help our neighbors with March rent and utilities. We have already received so much support for our neighbors, and because of this support we were able to help them with Jan & Feb expenses and groceries. We’re hoping to continue to support them as they navigate this difficult time. ICE has not left MN. It is still unsafe for many people to leave their homes, and even if they can work, they are not able to make up for the loss of income over the past 2 months. It will take time and community support to begin to recover. Mutual aid groups are overwhelmed and there are waiting lists for families to receive support. So, we are going to continue to turn to our own networks for support - and we encourage everyone to do the same. Use your resources and networks to help your neighbors, community and local mutual aid groups. The greatest need right now is rent relief. We will continue to collect donated items, but our mutual aid request is focused on helping 8 families with their expenses, so they can remain in the safety and security of their homes. If you’d like to contribute funds, then please send money to venmo.com/corimillerphoto. Your contribution will go directly to impacted families. Thank you for your support, compassion and solidarity!

Tonight I visited the Tipi Camp established by The Octet Sakowin (Dakota and Lakota people) at Mni Owe Sni (Coldwater Spring). The camp is a sacred ceremony site for people to come together with intention, care, community and honor, a stark contrast from the federal building in the background. Across from the camp is the Whipple Building, where ICE is detaining and deporting our community members. The location of the Whipple Building and Tipi Camp is historical and significant. Both are on the same lands as the former Fort Snelling Concentration Camp where more than 1600 Dakota people were tragically imprisoned and mentally and physically abused, and where hundreds lost their lives following The Dakota War in 1862-63. The concentration camp was part of the genocidal policies and practices pursued against Indigenous people throughout the US. Now, on these same lands, our immigrant community members are being detained and physically and mentally abused within the detainment center at Whipple Building by the hands of our federal government.

The Octet Sakowin established the tipi camp as a sacred ceremony site on lands where their people have lived and prayed long before it became a place of such cruelty and violence. Now they are reclaiming the space with honor, intention, and care. “This is not a protest or an occupation, it is ceremony…Everything we’re doing is grounded in nonviolence, community safety, and cultural respect.” Zachary White, an Anishinaabe father and community organizer.

Peaceful people are invited to join them and be in community. If you visit, please honor the people and the land. Bring donations, be willing to offer your help and support. Be mindful, respectful, and intentional. Embrace the environment and people around you - the community, the nature, the connections. Whether you’re there for morning sunrise or when the stars come out and the fire glows red, take it in. Listen to the moving water as you walk on the bridge crossing over Mní Ówe Sní/Coldwater Spring. Listen to the stories shared around the fire. Share food. Share your humanity. Recognize and appreciate where you are - the land you are on.

When I arrived, I was greeted by community members, including a Dakota community member. I asked for and received consent to take photos in this sacred space. They appreciate that people are showing up with respect and honor; they want to share their space and culture, and they are asking for unity. I was greeted with warmth and welcome. I met new people (and dogs), we stacked firewood and sorted food donations. We shared stories and built new connections. We listened and we learned. We gazed at the fire and the stars.

You are invited to peacefully share this space and heal with community. You can follow for updates on their supply needs. You can also provide financial support for these items by sending funds to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with-indigenous-ceremony-on-sacred-land
They are asking for community and support to protect this space and the people there so please show up however you can.
