I’m always here for my single baddies if they need to vent 🫶🏼

Places to visit in the PNW if you want that Twilight vibe:

• Kalama High School — the filming location for Forks High School (do not visit during school hours)
• Carver Cafe — where Charlie & Bella dine
• Rialto Beach — not a filming location, but it will give you the same vibes
• Hoh Rain Forest — moody vibes galore
• Forks — stop at the Twilight museum

If you’ve been dreaming of visiting the filming locations, many of them are actually close to Portland. You can either do day trips out from Portland or head to the Olympic National Park for Twilight-esq vibes.

📍 Teeley Creek to Bertha May Lake Trail

This trail in Washington is one of those short hikes with a surprisingly big payoff (or low barring fruit as some may say). Located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, this easy/moderate alpine lake with stunning views should be one on your list!

Trail Details:
• 2.1 miles roundtrip
• 475 ft elevation gain
• Out-and-back trail
• Moderate difficulty

Things to know before you go:
• Best visited late spring through fall
• Forest roads may close seasonally due to snow
• Limited parking at the trailhead
• No cell service in most areas
• Dogs allowed on leash
• Leave No Trace (always & forever)

**less than an hour from the paradise area of Mount Rainier National Park

I want to preface this by saying I’m not a geologist, I went to school for cellular & molecular biology, so my understanding of geology is pretty rudimentary at best.

But from my research, the formation of the Dolomites began during the Triassic period, roughly 250 million years ago…which my brain genuinely cannot comprehend.

At the time, this entire region was beneath the Tethys Ocean, an ancient sea that separated the supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana (remnants of it still exist today in the Mediterranean, Black, and Caspian Seas).

Over time, massive coral reefs and shell deposits accumulated on the ocean floor. Then around 30 million years ago, the African and European tectonic plates collided, forcing the Alpine region upward and creating the mountains we see today.

Which means the stone making up the Dolomites is actually ancient fossilized coral reef 🤯

Absolutely insane to think about.

Iykyk… this isn’t just a road trip, it’s your childhood dream come to life.

Driving into Olympic National Park feels like stepping into another world, I remember visiting almost 10 years ago and being in awe. One road takes you to a rugged coastline with huge rocks in the ocean and another leads you to a mossy covered forest.

Stops that feel straight out of the movie:
• Hoh Rain Forest
• La Push Beach
• Forks (visit the Twilight museum)
• Lake Crescent
•. Rialto Beach

Realistically the actual filming locations are closer to Portland, but the Olympic National Park still gives you the same vibe.

📍 Te Waihou Blue Springs

Located near Putāruru in New Zealand’s North Island, the Blue Spring is known for having some of the clearest water in the world, with visibility up to ~70 meters (230 feet). And actually seeing this IRL felt like I stepped into a Studio Ghibli movie.

The vibrant blue color comes from the way light refracts through the incredibly clean, mineral-rich water after being filtered underground for 50–100 years before surfacing. (Cool, huh?)

You can access the spring via the Te Waihou Walkway, an easy scenic trail that follows the river through beautiful greenery and boardwalk sections. (Bring sunscreen and a hat, there was minimal shade)

‼️Swimming is not allowed in the main spring in order to protect this fragile ecosystem.

I was able to squeeze in a wildflower hike after work one day before it was too late. Wildflowers along the Columbia River gorge are absolutely beautiful and if you haven’t visited in the spring, I highly recommend!
