It’s hard to believe that a sunset so beautiful can be caused by such destruction. Our weekend plans were to head out camping after Cameron’s 50K but we stayed close to home and in service so we could watch the reports of the fire that has rocked our tiny mountain town. Evacuation notices were issued to our cabin neighborhood and many others Friday afternoon. Our community stuck together to help evacuate friends, family and pets while firefighters packed their bags and marched towards the fire. Fire breaks were built to protect the neighborhood closest to the fire, neighborhoods were patrolled to make sure they stayed safe and free of spot fires and many other measures were done to protect the town. When we first received the information our neighborhood was being evacuated we felt helpless but as time unfolded we saw how strong our community is. So much gratitude for the people of Packwood and everyone that supported our community during this time. The fire is still burning but with some help from Mother Nature evacuation notices have been reduced and people can start returning to their homes.

Sunset at Takalakh Lake. The kids and I spent two nights camping, swimming and paddling around the lake. Love these solo trips with the kids. We would have stayed longer but the mosquitoes told us we needed to leave. Bring all the bug spray.
