Summer is officially winding down, which means we’re heading into Fall and holiday photo season.

With mini sessions coming up, I wanted to take a minute to explain the difference between a mini and a full family session, especially for families with young kids.

I hear “My child will only last 20 minutes” all the time. Sometimes a mini really is the perfect fit. But sometimes kids actually benefit from having more time to warm up, explore and just be themselves.

Minis are quick and focused. Full sessions give us more time and more variety. Neither is better. They’re simply different experiences.

Fall is one of my favorite times for extended family photos in Ponte Vedra Beach, especially when the holidays bring everyone back together.

When adult children live in different places and grandchildren seem to grow overnight, having the whole family in one place is worth remembering. An extended family session gives you so much more than one big group photo. We make time for grandparents and grandchildren, each individual family, cousins, siblings, and plenty of the fun in between.

If your family will be gathering in Ponte Vedra Beach, Sawgrass or St. Augustine this fall or over the holidays, it’s a perfect time to plan family photos while everyone is together.

One of the most important parts of my job is knowing when to direct a session and when to step back and follow.
I guide every session, but I also leave room for children to be children. I give them time and space to run, explore, cuddle or even laugh at something completely unexpected.
Those moments are often where the most meaningful photographs are found.

Extended family sessions are about so much more than one big family portrait.
Of course we’ll create the classic image everyone wants, but my favorite photographs are almost always the ones that happen in between. Grandparents surrounded by grandchildren, siblings laughing together, cousins playing in the waves, and the quiet moments that no one planned.
Those are the photographs that grow more meaningful with time.
