I've grouped together some photos from our recent trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan. For those of you that don't know, Mackinac is just north of the "Michigan state mitt" and most people arrive/depart via ferry, as there are no connecting bridges to the island. When staying on the island your luggage typically gets transported to your hotel via horse-drawn carts or bicycles. Motor vehicles are NOT allowed on the island. Subsequent posts will include shots of the harbor, the round island lighthouse, the Grand Hotel, Fort Mackinac and more. We had a wonderful stay and the cooler weather was refreshing. September 2026, Mackinac Island, Michigan. I always prefer a room with a view so that I might have the opportunity shoot some time-lapse video while we head out for dinner. This is one of several I captured during this trip, despite having to shoot through the window’s bug screen!

Early morning on Mackinac Island.
The Grand Hotel. No automobiles are allowed on the island except for a few emergency vehicles. The only way to here is via ferry or plane, though in the winter, some do sled across the frozen ice of the lake.

One of the neighborhood Mississippi Kites came to visit this morning but soon turned around to show me what he thought about me taking photos of him! (See last image, Lol) . I've seen these small birds of prey catch dragonflies in flight and they love to glide around overhead...
