Opinion: Speaking With Delvin M. King — Residents Deserve a Commissioner Who Puts Them First
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Delvin M. King, candidate for Pompano Beach City Commission District 5, and one message came through loud and clear:
Residents come first.
For many Palm Aire residents, that commitment matters now more than ever.
Palm Aire is one of Pompano Beach's most unique and desirable communities. Its golf courses, open green spaces, established neighborhoods, wildlife, and quality of life have attracted generations of residents seeking something increasingly difficult to find in South Florida — room to breathe.
But many residents are increasingly concerned about proposals that could dramatically increase residential density throughout the community.
King says he understands those concerns.
"I am running to represent the people — not developers, special interests, political insiders, or anyone seeking to profit at the expense of our neighborhoods," King said.
He believes growth should be carefully planned, transparent, and supported by adequate infrastructure before additional development is approved.
Palm Aire residents have repeatedly raised concerns about increasing traffic congestion, limited sidewalks, a lack of dedicated bike paths, public safety challenges, aging infrastructure, and the possibility of thousands of additional residential units being added to the community.
King says these concerns deserve serious attention from city leadership.
"Every development proposal should be evaluated based on a simple question: Does it improve the lives of residents?" King said. "If the answer is no, it should not move forward."
He also expressed support for protecting Palm Aire's character, open spaces, and recreational assets, including the golf courses that many residents view as essential to the community's identity.
For many voters, the issue is not whether growth should occur.
The issue is whether growth is being managed responsibly.
Residents want elected officials who will ask tough questions, demand accountability, insist on infrastructure improvements, and ensure that taxpayers—not developers—remain the priority.
King says that would be his approach.
His platform emphasizes:
🏘️ Residents First
🌳 Protecting Quality of Life
📋 Transparency and Accountability
🚦 Responsible Growth and Infrastructure Planning
🛑 Standing Up to Special Interests
🤝 Community Engagement and Open Government
As Palm Aire faces important decisions about its future, many residents are looking for leaders willing to listen to the community rather than dictate to it.
King believes residents deserve a seat at the table whenever major decisions affecting their neighborhoods are made.
"The future of Palm Aire should be shaped by the people who live here," he said. "Their voices deserve to be heard, respected, and represented."
Whether discussing development, infrastructure, public safety, or neighborhood preservation, King says his focus remains simple:
Protect the community.
Protect taxpayers.
Put residents first.
