Barn series: what is it about a barn that feels so romantic and comforting? Even worn-down, falling-apart barns?

I’ve been working on this painting for nearly 2 years. Well…mostly just moving it around my studio 😂 Yesterday I decided to paint over it. It wasn’t working for me and I knew that I didn’t know what I didn’t know. And that was holding me back.

Then I thought what if I just keep working and experimenting? It’s the same as painting over it - and I’m glad I did. It’s not done, but I’m learning a lot. I learned Instagram won’t show me a photo album inside a photo album, so I couldn’t get the the awful iterations this piece has been through. (Yikes!)

I’m learning about layers and washes and LOTS of ways to not effectively paint light, the setting sun, clouds or light reflections on water!

I’ll pop the next iteration sometime soon. Maybe it will be white gesso! 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

This abstract got completely taken over by my desire to do some loose, drooping sunflowers. Idk if I am done or not. It ALWAYS looks better in person, which is why I include several views and close ups.
