"Welcome to NYC" - 2026 International Photographic Competition Silver Award Winner

In January, I was honored to have this image awarded the Silver award in the 2026 IPC. Out of over 2,000 photos in the competition, this image was selected as one of the final 16 images in the Reportage/Photojournalism Category.

The photo was taken in May of 2025 while visiting our daughter in NYC. I took one shot from our platform to the other side. I was focused on the tile work on the 51st Street sign, and the gentleman on camera left. I never saw the other "gentleman" behind the column, or the woman. Luck is one of the main ingredients of a good photo.

"Lonely Moose" - Schwabacker Landing, Grand Teton National Park 09/25

Our group was scouting Schwabacker Landing for the next morning's sunrise on the Teton Mountain range in the distance, and this fine fellow started walking through the area. I was so busy trying to capture a great shot of him, I should have captured the better shot of the nearly 100 people trying to grab a photo of him.

"Freedom" - Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, August 2024

While visiting close friends in Pasadena, MD, we decided to take a late afternoon run in his boat so I could photograph what's left of the Francis Scott Bridge, after the barge collision 5 months before. We've known each other since middle school, and it was fitting that I capture one of his favorite things.

"I Will Make You Proud" - Baylor University graduation ceremony, 2022.

One of the ingredients of a good photograph is a strong composition. It will help the viewer's eye focus on the story the photographer wants to communicate. Another less talked about ingredient in a good photograph is...luck. This image has both.
