I wrote a new post for the Benton Downs website about something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately — how to come home with travel photos that tell more of the story.
Most of us naturally start with the obvious photo.
The mountain.
The church.
The skyline.
The waterfall.
The famous view.
And we should take those photos. I certainly do.
But I’ve found that the images I enjoy most later are often the smaller ones — the old door, the ironwork on a fence, the moss hanging from the trees, the light on a quiet street, or some little detail that reminds me what it felt like to be there.
The post walks through a simple way to think about this while you’re photographing: get the big picture, then look for the medium view, the details, the feeling, and maybe even a closing image.
Nothing complicated. Just a way to slow down a little and see more.
