Point Number 4:
It is commonly taught that the Rapture and the Second Coming are distinct events divided by a seven-year span. However, this view is not supported by Scripture.
Many have pondered the sequence of events that take place at the time of the Second Coming but it’s really very simple. Jesus will return to collect His bride (the church), we will have the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in the sky and then make our way to fight on behalf of Israel at the Battle of Armageddon. The Rapture, Marriage Supper of the Lamb and the Second Coming are one continuous event.
The Apostle Paul taught this in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3, “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Second Coming), and by our gathering together unto him (the Rapture), That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” Clearly, the Apostle Paul was teaching it was one continuous event.
The scenario I just mentioned, where Jesus will return to collect His bride (the church), we have the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in the sky and then make our way to fight on behalf of Israel at the Battle of Armageddon, is explained in Revelation 19:6-20.This is the fourth account of the Second Coming in Revelation. Revelation 19:6-20 is the most dramatic account of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and it provides a clear chronological order of events that will transpire.
Revelation 19:6-7 states, “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.”
The church is referred to throughout Scripture as the bride of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches when Jesus returns, we will be caught up to meet Him in the air and our marriage will be consummated; we will be joined and will forever be with the Lord. When He comes to establish His Kingdom, to rule as King of kings, the bride, His wife, the church, will rule with Him. Revelation 5:10 says we will reign with Him as kings and priests on Earth.
John further describes it in Revelation 19:8, “And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” The church, the bride, will be arrayed in the righteousness that Jesus imputes to us through His cleansing blood. His forgiveness of all our transgressions will make us ready to be His bride.
John continues in Revelation 19:9, “And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.” We are being called but we will also be chosen to be a part of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. It is the will of God that none should perish but that all would come to repentance. It is necessary to respond to the call of God (obey the Gospel and be born again) to be a part of the bride of Christ.
John goes on to say in Revelation 19:11: “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.” The heavens will open and Jesus, in His resplendent glory, will be riding a white horse. Jesus will judge iniquity and make war against those who have lived in rebellion and have rejected His lordship as the Creator of all things.
John goes on to say in Revelation 19:12,“His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.” Jesus is faithful and true. He is coming to judge and make war against the ungodly at Armageddon.
John continues in Revelation 19:14, “And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.” This is referring to the church who has been caught up to meet Him in the air. We will come with Him to the Mount of Olives and be with Him as He defeats the armies of the Antichrist at the Battle of Armageddon. Jude 1:14 states, “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,”
Zechariah 14:5 says, “And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.”
John continues in Revelation 19:15-20 describing events that will transpire at the Battle of Armageddon.
From this passage we know the Rapture, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and the Second Coming — when the Lord returns with His saints to defend Israel at the Battle of Armageddon — are not depicted as separate and extended prophetic events but as one unified, continuous revelation of Christ’s return: the bride is caught up, joined with her Bridegroom and returns with Him in glory.
A helpful way to understand it is like this: As Jesus descends to fight the Battle of Armageddon, His bride will be raptured to meet Him in the sky. After the Marriage Supper in the sky, His bride will then accompany Him to fight the Battle of Armageddon and then to crown Him King of kings and Lord of lords.
