A little seasonal refresh doesn’t have to involve a trip to the store. Try a favorite fall photo as your phone or computer wallpaper—colorful leaves, a pumpkin patch, or a view from your own backyard. It’s a small change you’ll see every day. What’s on your screen right now: family, pets, scenery, or the default background?

Selling something online? A buyer’s “payment sent” screenshot isn’t proof that money reached you. Open your payment app or bank account yourself and confirm the transaction before handing over the item. Be suspicious if someone says you need to pay a fee to receive your money, or sends too much and asks you to refund the difference.

Ever rewind a scene because you missed what someone said? Try turning on closed captions in your streaming app. Many services also let you adjust the text size, color, or background to make it easier to read. Look under accessibility or subtitle settings. Are captions always on at your house, or only when the dialogue gets quiet?

You don’t need a fancy camera to capture a little fall color. Wipe your phone’s lens, look for soft morning or late-afternoon light, and tap the screen where you want it to focus. A bright leaf, a front-porch pumpkin, or a favorite walking trail can make a great photo. What’s your favorite sign of fall?

Trying a new app or streaming service? Before you tap “start free trial,” check when the paid subscription begins and what it will cost. Set a calendar reminder a couple of days before renewal so you can decide whether it’s worth keeping. A trial should help you try something—not surprise you with a charge.

A stolen password shouldn’t be all it takes to get into your account. Turn on two-step verification wherever it’s offered, especially for email and banking. An authenticator app or security key can add another layer of protection. Save your recovery codes somewhere safe, and never share a sign-in code with someone who calls or messages you.

The toys are back in this animated adventure from Disney and Pixar, which was released in theaters in June. Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same? Toy Story 5 is now streaming on Disney+.

A browser pop-up claiming your computer is infected can look convincing—especially when it tells you to call “support” right away. Don’t call the number, install software, or give a stranger remote access to your device. Close the tab or browser; if it won’t close, use your device’s task manager or force-quit option. If you’re concerned, open your trusted security software directly instead of following the pop-up.

Heading out for a fall road trip? Download a few favorite shows, podcasts, or playlists over your home Wi-Fi before you leave. Apps that support offline listening or viewing can keep you entertained when a connection is unavailable. Check that your downloads play in airplane mode before heading out, and remember that some downloads expire. What’s on your travel playlist?
