My early summer was busy photographing about 95 employees of one of El Dorado County's largest employers. At locations from Georgetown to El Dorado Hills these busy professionals got fresh, casual portraits taken with only a few minutes out of their day. Here are a few of my favorites.

Some photographers speak of "capturing" someone in a portrait. I have always thought of my subjects as collaborators rather than prey. Here is family that seized an opportunity. We planned a session in Lotus on a weekend they knew they'd have formal clothes to wear. I like to capture spontaneous images, but not human beings. I was once scolded off by a group of seamstresses in Madagascar even though I was across the road and trying to be discreet. As if this gray haired white guy wouldn't stand out. One finger wag and I nodded and waved that I understood and respected - no photos. Other scenes and situations were no problem

Two of my favorite portrait subjects. Jack & Alice at Marshall Gold Discovery Park. Patient enough to let Grampy fiddle with his 4x5 Speed Garphic from 1947. 8x10 print on Ilford Multi-Grade Paper. They also know how to focus a photo enlarger and rock the developer tray .

Here is one from my High-tech days. I used a view camera to get everything sharp by "swinging" the lens. In the original 4x5 transparency, you can read the computer screen at the end of the bench and also see detail in the stainless steel wires in the foreground.

God's handiwork in detail. An autumn boquet of weeds from the Jaquier Rd Trail in Placerville. Using four images "stacked" for sharpness top to bottom. The red is ragweed. As a kid I loved to pull these pods off in one zip.

All the little yellow sparkles are pollen, about 7x in camera

Here is what Ragweed looks like at about 17x life size in the camera.
