"Bed in Summer" by Robert Louis Stevenson

In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candlelight.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.

I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people's feet
Still going past me in the street.

And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day.

"Hen's Song" by Rose Fyleman

Chick, chick, come out of your shell,
I've warmed you long and I've warmed you well;
The sun is hot and the sky is blue
Quick, chick, it's time you came through.

"What Happens to the Colors?" by Jack Prelutsky

What happens to the colors
when night replaces day?
What turns the wrens to ravens,
the trees to shades of gray?

Who paints away the garden
when the sky's a sea of ink?
Who robs the sleeping flowers
of their purple and their pink?

What makes the midnight clover
quiver black upon the lawn?
What happens to the colors?
What brings them back at dawn?

How Without Arms by JonArno Lawson

How, without arms,
did the sun
climb over trees?

And without knees
to sink on,
how did it sink behind them?

And without eyes,
how did it peek
through the leaves?

And without
being awakened,
how did it rise?

How loud the trees are in the spring!
All they ever do is sing.
Fluttering up and down the way,
With voices rejoicing of a bright new day.

-a spring poem inspired by all the birds' songs during my morning walk

"The Farmyard" by A.A. Attwood

One black horse standing by the gate,
Two plump cats eating from a plate;
Three big goats kicking up their heels,
Four pink pigs full of grunts and squeals;
Five white cows coming slowly home,
Six small chicks starting off to roam;
Seven fine doves perched upon the shed,
Eight grey geese eager to be fed;
Nine young lambs full of frisky fun,
Ten brown bees buzzing in the sun.

"Whether the Weather" - Anonymous

Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot;
Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not;
Whatever the weather
We'll weather the weather,
Whether we like it or not!
