This is something that I have been thinking about a lot lately - what are my priorities as a wedding photographer?

The knee-jerk reaction from most people is probably to create stunning images that my wedding clients can share and display.

That's the product I deliver, but it's not a priority.

The priority is the why.

It's a reflection of my values.

It is the core of the experience that I provide.

If you hire me as your wedding photographer and I deliver you a gallery of wedding photography that would look right at home on the pages of Vogue, but your *experience* of your wedding day was terrible, I failed.

The point of the photography is to document your wedding day experience in a way that is elevated, editorial, and joyful - because your day WAS joyful and full of love and laughter.

I'm not trying to create theater where we fake joy.

I am curating the love and connection that is already happening into the best possible version of your wedding day.

I'm styling vignettes that capture the vision you worked so hard to create.

I'm noticing the small details and little moments that get lost in the bustle, so that you can look back on them and see them too.

There is something so timeless about a classic car, golden hour, and a beautiful venue for your wedding portraits, don't you think?

It adds just the right touch of fun and editorial flair.

I was walking around downtown Asheville a week or so ago, when I was in town to attend a wedding (as a guest!!!).

I was just walking taking photos of different things that I thought looked interesting or caught my attention and this thought hit me.

People like to complain about the market being oversaturated with wedding photographers, and maybe it is. Maybe it always has been.

I've been doing this for a long time now - longer than I really like to think about because it makes me feel old - and I think a photographers greatest strength is in their curiosity.

This job shouldn't be about checking boxes and recreating a set list of photos for each client. At least, that's not what it is about to me.

Weddings, on the whole, are more alike then they are different once you've been to enough of them.

The art of being a wedding photographer - a truly good one - is to sift through all of that and capture the things that are unique, and to present them in a way that is beautiful, timeless, and impactful.

If that sounds like what you're looking for, shoot me a message.

Let's talk about sunset photos.

I always schedule time in my wedding day timelines for us to step outside for 15-20 minutes for sunset photos.

Do we always end up going out? No, but I schedule them regardless, and here's why:

1. If we get a nice weather day, you get images like this. Magic.

2. It allows us time to capture wedding portraits in a second location from where we did your portraits earlier in the day. More variety = a more diversified gallery of images.

3. It creates breathing room in our timeline. Weddings are crazy with a lot of moving parts, and sometimes the early part of the day can get behind schedule. It creates much less stress knowing we will have time for portraits later in the day.

4. We don't always have to use that time, but it creates peace of mind to know that it's there.

Operation Secret Proposal…SUCCESS!!!

Pulling off a proposal without the other person suspecting something is *hard*. Kael got both of their families and several of her friends in on the plan and it came together perfectly.
