A Great Egret goes fishing.
We were at Lake Saracen getting ready to start our fun with friends weekly birding trip and this Great Egret decided it was time to go fishing. It looks like fishing was successful and the flip to get the fish to line up to drop into the mouth was good too.

It was a fun day of birding with friends and we even found a Life bird for me, this Ruddy Turnstone. We actually spotted four which seems like some kind of record around here as they breed in the Arctic tundra and winter on coastlines nearly world wide. They have an interesting behavior in that they flip rocks and other debris to find and eat invertebrates. Taken at Boyd Point in Pine Bluff while on our weekly fun with friends birding trip.

The sun was on the wrong side and of course there was no way to get around behind the Scissor Tailed Flycatcher so I took the shot I had. Way up high, on the top of a tree we spotted this Green Heron land but it was so high and far away it took a while for us to figure out what it was. It was a surprise because it was the first Green Heron we had spotted in the area. I guess it just liked the view. Taken on our weekly fun with friends birding trip on back road in Pine Bluff.

The Northern Mockingbird was there first and looked mad that the Red Headed Woodpecker had the audacity to land on the Mockingbird's pole. We watched for a while and thought there might be flying beaks but the Northern Mockingbird took leave as the better part of valor and not long thereafter the Red Headed Woodpecker took off too. Taken while on our fun with friends weekly birding trip in Pine Bluff Regional Park.
