A 600 mile chase yesterday started with a severe rain bomb in Safford, then watching a monster line of storms move into AZ from Mexico, and finaly a white-knuckle "I should just go home" drive from Tucson to Sells punching heavy rain and strong winds. But it sure was worth it at the end. It's not an easy area to chase, so I just pulled off on the first road I could see, setup and suddenly bolts were raining down all over. I quickly adjusted my camera from f/5.6 ISO 200 to f/9 ISO 100 and went to 10mm and hopped in my truck to be safe. At 10mm, this strike in reality was directly above me, those bolts only a few hundred feet away.

After this, I jumped out, threw it in the back, pulled the hatch closed behind me and crawled to the driver's seat 🤣

Yesterday I noticed the crazy amount of shear and supercell composite along the border of AZ/Mexico, so we decided to hang near Douglas to see if the monster storms would materialize. Well, it sure freaking did. We watched this from low topped towers to an explosive supercell that moved to the north into Arizona and put on a structure/color show that I wont soon forget. This was an all-timer for me, maybe Top 10/Top 5 Arizona storm I've ever been on. It was magical

Amazing storm over Tucson last night, complete with strong winds, dust, gorgeous colors on a strong downburst and great bolts! Had two private guest brothers fly in yesterday morning from New York and boy we hit the ground running. Their luck at getting two straight "Slight Risk" days in Arizona is wild!

We chased to the east side of the Chiricahuas's on the 30th, and the light was utterly magical. We had rainbows and warm tones, and light rain. I heard thunder from this barely-there rain shower and decided to risk aiming at it despite more bolts to the right, and I was blessed with this incredibly strike, following a similar line as the rainbow itself, landing just a mile or so away. Was an incredible way to finish up the last day chasing with Action Photo Tours!

Back on the 24th of July we had this lovely storm near St. David dropping bolts just after sunset. We had a wonderful overlook and our entire workshop got to experience the joy of landing points 🤣⚡️
