A supercell looms behind these strikes southwest of Chino Valley. The low structure moving over the mountain there was spooky in the dark. This was shot at 4am and would go tornado warned 30 minutes or so later, and eventually move into Flagstaff with intense circulation.

Enhanced risk and a 5% tornado tomorrow for AZ! Craziness. Haven’t seen a setup like this since 2010 when northern AZ had 7 tornadoes on October 6th. Should be fun starting late tonight. And Thursday is a Slight Risk! Glad I have no family sessions this week! Good luck if you are out chasing! Expecting to see some plains chasers flocking to AZ tomorrow 😆

A slow-moving, mothership supercell that birthed in Salina, Kansas and moved to the southeast, putting on a show!

This was the top chase of the season for me...I drove 7 hours from South Dakota and passed under this storm as it was starting to really get going, grabbed gas, and then time-lapsed the updraft. From there, it was just finding spots along an incredible grid network to capture the beauty, the green and the gorgeous structure.

One of those epic nights in June

From September 16th, out near of Interstate 8 north of Wellton, the strong/severe storms earlier moved east to west and created an unexpected haboob under a shelf cloud that was pretty great. I wasn't sure at the time, but the time-lapses turned out awesome and will be part of Monsoon 8 of course! I let it race by to the west, opting to use this stunning foreground of a freshly furrowed field.

Probably the best chase day of the spring for me was June 10th in Kansas. Drove 7 hours from South Dakota and arrived in Salina as this storm was exploding and then had an incredible 3-4 hour chase with structure and colors and slow moving awesomeness.

An hour long storm that exploded in the moonlight

Amazing clear air bolt last night just past New River, hitting one of the plateaus in that area. This storm only dropped like 4 bolts, but all of them were of this monster out of the top variety. Crazy storms lately. Stay tuned for potential flooding and heavy rains early next week depending on how things go with the hurricanes in the Pacific currently!
