Time for some maintenance!

What’s your go-to oil for your 3.6 Pentastar?

Busy day means I’m out here at night. Thankful for my Devos Outdoor lights!

How long would you wait for this permit? đź”’

Casner Mountain gets one group permit a week, mid-May through mid-October. It’s a narrow ridge between Sycamore Canyon and Red Rock–Secret Mountain, then nearly 2,000 feet of switchbacks in the last 2.5 miles down into Sedona.

Full video is on YouTube. The trip report covers how to get the permit, where to camp, and the full route with waypoints for subscribers. Link in bio.

Testing a new RTT⛺

First trip with the Taruca Dark Rogue 2.0 on Casner Mountain. It pops open in seconds, the ladder collapses with two toggles, it’s pitch black inside in broad daylight, and four latches close it up. No exterior tension rods either, so it plays nice with a 270 awning.

Full review is live on YouTube. Link to the Dark Rogue 2.0 is in my bio and stories.

Most people will never drive this road.

Casner Mountain sits behind two locked gates, and the Forest Service hands out one group permit a week. This fall landed one and invited us along, with , and .

A quarter mile in, a dead ponderosa from the 2021 fire was lying across the only way in. We winched it, cut it and left the road open for whoever's next. Then the ridge, the views and nearly 2,000 feet of switchbacks down into Sedona.

Long before the power lines, the Casner family drove cattle across this ridge, summer range on the rim and winter grazing in the Verde Valley. The new trip report tells that story, plus how to actually get a permit, where you can and can't camp, and what worked and what broke.

Would you winch it or turn around? 🌲

A quarter mile from a permit-only gate, a fire-killed pine was lying across the only way in from the north side. No reroute and no other way up, so out came the winch and the chainsaw.

Full trail and how to get a permit: subscribe at overlandaz.net for the trip report and route. Full video on YouTube Sunday 10/18 at 9am PT OverlandAZ.

What do you do when the only way in is blocked? 🌲

A quarter mile from the Casner Mountain gate, a fire-killed pine was lying across the only access from the Flagstaff side. Winch, chainsaw, and some teamwork with Millennium Overland 🇺🇸Randy/Chris/FJ🇺🇸 Jose Martinez Tony Wight, and we squeezed through.

Full video drops Sunday 9AM on YouTube. Trip report releases on overlandaz.net at the same time. Email subscribers get our GPS tracks, camp spot, and points of interest - link in bio.

Where does your JKU hide extra storage? 🤔

Right above your cargo area, under the hardtop.

We’ve run the Mountains2Metal Flip Down Attic Shelf on Clifford for a year of family trips, and it holds the stuff we want within reach that would otherwise be loose in the cabin: our MORRFlate air kit, camp gear and a first aid kit.

It’s rated for 50 lbs, has zero rattles, installs with a few bolts into factory holes, and it’s made in the USA.

Swipe to see how it flips down 👉 Then read the full review at overlandaz.net (link in bio → Gear Reviews).
