For 13 years, while I was documenting the stories and lives of strangers, I was at the same time unconsciously looking for and building my own identity in a country that equally showed me magic and pain, exuberance and loss, vulnerability and fortitude. A place that never let me settle into certainty, but always gave me enough beauty, and heart, to stay. The camera became both shield and mirror: In the faces of others I was slowly finding the edges of my own.

You can ore-order the book until June 30 via te link pinned in my profile. Thank you!

“Alma” is my limited edition photobook, published by Eyeshot.

“Working across Mexico and the wider Americas, Zehbrauskas has built a photographic language shaped by intimacy, dignity, and an unflinching attention to the social realities that define everyday life. With “Alma”, Eyeshot brings together this sensibility in book form: a project rooted in Mexico, but resonating far beyond geography.

The title suggests not only soul, but presence — the inner life that remains visible even in contexts marked by hardship, faith, resilience, and vulnerability. Rather than reducing people to symbols of crisis, Zehbrauskas photographs them as individuals: complex, fragile, strong, and fully alive. That is where the power of her work lies.”

After June 30th, the limited edition will never be available again.

Our story on the escaramuza, the only event for women in Mexico’s national sport of charrería, in the April 2026 issue of Arizona Highways, dedicated to celebrating Mexican heritage in Arizona.

More than a series of equestrian exercises, it is truly a family affair and a labour of love.

In my "Family Matters" series, I photographed families living under the threat of violence and forced disappearances, using the same tool they use to document their own lives —the cell phone— to address a central paradox of our times: never have so many images been produced, yet fewer and fewer are printed and kept.

Family portraits have always fascinated me for how much of our identity they carry — capturing change over time, and telling the story of where and how we live.
