Many of my couples tell me they want their wedding gallery filled with candid photos, but that they also need help feeling comfortable in front of the camera. The great news is that both can exist in the same gallery!!!

The majority of your wedding day is filled with candid moments - your ceremony, mingling at cocktail hour, reception dances, etc. Not to mention all the little moments in between formal portraits and group photos!

Where the guidance comes in is “promoted portraits” during formal photo time. This often happens after your first look, or when we sneak away from reception for golden hour/sunset! I prefer to give my couples a mix of prompts and poses to encourage motion and interaction with each other instead of just stationery, straight face poses (Vogue style). And sometimes, those prompted poses can look & feel like candid photos!

So here’s what both types of photos look like in three of my recent wedding galleries 🤗 What do you think? Are you surprised that any of the portraits did not happen without prompting?

he Iglios are officially MARRIED!!! No Nor’easter could stop these two from having an incredible wedding day 🙌🏼

Abby and Michael said everything fell into place once they decided to have an intimate wedding day. Their families are their best friends and they don’t love being the center of attention, so keeping their wedding small took all the unnecessary pressure off and allowed them to be fully present and enjoy the day!!

When I arrived to Abby’s parents’ house, it was raining pretty heavily from the Nor’easter but the vibes inside were calm and happy. I photographed the little details, which included a letter from Michael to Abby as well as little notes of encouragement and wisdom for marriage gifted to them from their loved ones! Other cool details were Michael’s heirloom wedding ring and Abby’s ~red bottom heels~ ✨

Michael & Abby opted not to do a first look and wait until the aisle to see each other!! The rain prevented their outdoor ceremony from happening (including the tented ceremony spot for plan B), so everyone gathered inside in a nice window-lit room for the wedding to begin. It felt nice and cozy with their 40 favorite people ready to support Abby & Michael’s commitment to forever 🫶🏼 Abby walked down the aisle to a violinist playing a Taylor Swift song, Michael received her with happy tears in his eyes, and the two became husband and wife!!!

The biggest blessing came after the ceremony - the rain stopped!!! We were able to go outside and take portraits with the gorgeous view of the Susquehanna River that Abby & Michael loved so much about this venue 🤍 Whenever something like that happens, I like to call it a “smile from above” :)

But the biggest smile from above happened just a little bit later 🤭

During dinner, it looked like it was getting pretty dark outside. We had planned on doing sunset portraits, and when we got outside, there was the faintest pink hue in the sky … but within a few minutes, the whole sky turned an electric fuchsia pink!!!! What a turnaround from the rain to start the day - the most vivid, colorful sunset to end it 🤩

Erik & Casey are husband and wife!!!!! 🤍

Cheers to some of the smiliest people on planet earth 🤗 The rain could not dull the sparkle of this day because boy, were these two absolutely radiating joy throughout their wedding day!!

I first met Casey & Erik while photographing another wedding in 2024. We had a lovely conversation during cocktail hour, and I was so ecstatic to see their names pop into my inbox a little less than a year later!! I had been looking forward to their wedding at Cairnwood Estate & Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve ever since, and it did not disappoint 🤩

Erik & Casey wrote letters to each other (on handmade cards, no less!) to kick their wedding day off on a beautiful note. Erik has made a card for Casey every single month since they first started dating 🥹 so this card, the September 2026 edition, was extra special!

The rain let up just in time for Casey & Erik to have their first look outside in front of a colorful flower garden - praise the Lord! They both smiled SO big when they saw each other, and that happiness shined in all of their couples portraits. They were so cute together and the venue was so beautiful that we could have taken portraits for hours!!! But we had a wedding ceremony to get to 😆

These two were married to the backdrop of beautiful music - a lovely string ensemble and an amazing rendition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” sung by Casey’s bridesmaid Janet - and a swelling of love & support by all of their guests. It really is so incredible to witness and document all the love in a wedding day outside of the two people who are getting married! 🫶🏼

Immediately after getting married, Casey & Erik treated everyone (and themselves!) to bubble tea from Mi N’ Tea! Their guests mingled and enjoyed the sweet treat before heading back to Cairnwood Estate for cocktail hour 🥂 Then it was time to eat and to party!! The newlyweds absolutely crushed their first dance (that they choreographed themselves the week before 🤯) and the toasts from their loved ones were filled with laughs and happy tears. It was a beautiful ending to a gorgeous wedding day.

The Warrens are MARRIED!!!! 🤩🫶🏼🥳

What an incredible day this was!!! Jul & Mike were so freaking excited to marry each other, and that energy permeated every corner of their wedding day. They were hype, their people were hype, the Trenton Thunder mascot Boomer was hype … high energy & good vibes all around!!!

Jul started the day sharing a first look with her bridesmaids and her dad before getting ready to see Mike for the first time. It was a busy morning of hair & makeup, little details and Chick fil A (ofc)! Before their first look, Mike told me he had literally been waiting for this moment all day and was just so excited to see his bride. And when they finally saw each other, all the jitters seemed to dissipate into just joy 💛

Mike & Jul are so happy around each other. They giggle easily, they look up to each other, they support each other in everything - it was a beautiful dynamic to witness & document!! We had so much fun taking portraits down by the river (Jul especially loves the water!) on the most perfect sunny September Friday 🌞 Wedding party photos were always a blast (as usual) - the classic black tuxes with the sage green bridesmaid dresses against a neutral nature background was *chef’s kiss* 🤌🏼

Then it was time to get married!!! Jul’s brother officiated the ceremony - he played little league baseball with Mike, which is how their families originally met. Jul’s dad and Mike’s dad even coached together!!! But it wasn’t until later in life that these two connected. And according to Jul’s sister, it was immediately a “yes”! 🤣🙌🏼 Both their vows were so beautiful and showcased the pure love have for one another. The best!!

But wait - there’s more! Mike & Jul had 2 surprises up their sleeve for the reception. Mike is the radio announcer for the Trenton Thunder (so cool). His friend is the radio announcer for the Eagles, and he recorded the grand entrance announcement to be played at their reception! It was awesome!!! And to kick off the dancing, Boomer (the Thunder mascot) made a spectacular appearance and made sure everyone had a great time on the dance floor 🎉

Congratulations to the Warrens on a beautiful marriage!!! 🥰
