SOCIAL MEDIA IS ABOUT CONNECTING 👋🏾. I can’t tell y’all how many times I jump on social media and leave unfulfilled. Most times it’s because I’m spiraling down a rabbit whole of comparing myself to photographers, who’ve been in the game for years longer. Or, I’m comparing my life to peoples “insta lives,” forgetting why I’m on social to begin with - Connection.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was reminded of that today, when I received the sweetest, kindest DM, regarding a personal post I made a while back about my dad’s Brian aneurysm. I was honored to have been able to reach someone with my story and connect over our similarities, which is what social media is about.

I’ll continue sharing all the gorgeous, thoughtful moments captured photographing my dear clients, but I’ll def be sharing a lot more about me, myself, and I! So, hopefully I can build a connection with all you following me and more.

I probably shouldn’t be awake right now because my day went something like this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1.) Wake up at 6:30
2.) Watched my almost 1yr old niece, while working a full shift at my day job.
3.) Dropped off the lens I rented for a shoot.
4.) Dropped off our second deposit for our new home.
5.) Came home and made dinner.
6.) Washed the dishes.
7.) Begin editing the engagement session I shot this weekend.
8.) Now taking a shower and fingers crossed I fall asleep before midnight for work tomorrow.

Honestly, the first time I was in front the camera I was a hott mess! I had convinced an old colleague of mine to do a couples session for us, and everything was gravy until she actually picked up the camera.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I didn't know how to smile, s**t if I knew where to place my hands, and posing DEF did not come naturally to me. I mean, why would it! Who actually stands in these popular Instagram poses in real life. Though we loved how the photos came out, it was just an awkward experience taking them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let me tell you what I took away from that experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Space - I give my couples space to just be. In these moments they can be themselves, move in ways that feel natural to them, and just exist together.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Less Posing, More Movement - I find that couples feel more comfortable when they're focusing on a task or movement vs. where to place their hands or feet.

3. Choose Personal Locations - Choosing fun, personal locations that connect with your every day lifestyle makes sessions even more awesome.

Who matters? What matters? 🤔 These questions are constantly running through my mind, when I’m shooting a wedding. Don’t get me wrong, its darn easy to get side tracked focusing on gorgeous venues, beautiful gowns, and epics shots, but I always try to bring it back to WHO & WHAT matters on a wedding day. And who, pray tell, might that be.

Anyone else distracted today? 🤔 I'm sitting here at my 9 to 5, trying to be productive, and all I can think of is the wedding I need to edit, the contract and blog posts that need to go out tonight, the chicken sitting in my fridge that needs to be marinated, the p**p my cat just kicked out the litter box, and allll the furniture ideas I want to pin on Pinterest for our new home.
