Hey friends! I thought I should quick introduce myself for those who don't know me. My name is Lindsey, and I am a botanical watercolor artist hailing from the beautiful rolling hillsides of northern Maryland.

🎨 I went to college for art education and graphic design. I am a certified K-12 art teacher, though I've enjoyed teaching art classes for all age groups! It is a joy to help people who haven't picked up a paint brush in 40 years dive back into art again and enjoy it.

💻 When I'm not painting, I'm a graphic designer and instructional designer: a digital media alchemist utilizing different software and technology. Technology is always changing and I find that exhilarating - full of creative possibilities!

😸 I'm a high functioning introvert (INFP for all you Myers-Briggs folks!) I love my family and friends and tend to be a bit of a quiet, peace-loving, cat-cuddling hermit, generally speaking.

⚔️ I am a huge fantasy nerd and LOTR fan. On any given weekend, you might find me running through the woods wearing something GOT-inspired for an impromptu fun photoshoot, playing an epic game, reading / listening to audiobook while painting, or watching a historical fiction-inspired show / movie with my wonderful husband, Chris!

🎧 Music is a huge part of my life and I love matching the music to the feeling of the art I am working on! I am working on an ethereal playlist for painting botanical art... would you like me to share with you?

Here is a brainstorming sketch where I got to play the part of "fantasy florist." I was requested to create a custom bouquet for a bride whose wedding plans were impacted by Covid. I thoroughly enjoyed going on an epic quest to "pick" beautiful flowers and greenery for her and assembled this fantasy bouquet just for her. I thought some of you might get a kick out of seeing this very "doodle-esque" stage of the process where I am working on figuring things out!

What are your favorite things to do?

When I'm not painting flowers, you can find me visiting art museums and botanical gardens, dabbling in perfumery, herbalism, and soapmaking, hunting for vintage treasures, reading about ancient cultures, coordinating fantastical photoshoots, or off exploring on a woodland adventure!

Do you collect a particular type of art?

For original works, I love artwork that depicts flowers, plants, animals, insects, and artwork with fantastical, otherworldly leanings.

We have three original paintings by other artists currently in our tiny collection: 2 botanical paintings passed down from my family, and one beautiful painting of violets and rabbits from that was an anniversary present from a couple years ago.

Eventually, I hope my garden of botanical art will grow and grow. . . each piece different, but working together as a cohesive whole.🌷

At some point, I plan to paint my own bouquet large scale to frame and hang next to a beautiful watercolor botanical painting of Chinese lantern stems from the 1970's. I feel the citrus-y pops of my bouquet will go really well with the orange and leaf green of the 1970's painting. 🍊☀️🍃

Favorite candle indulgence for my studio: Voluspa Saijo Persimmon! It has notes of persimmon, peach & red currant - vibrant, uplifting, zesty, and a favorite to burn while painting! 🎨

It is true friends of the internet: Celeste looks THIS impossibly cute *all* the time. It is a wonder I get any painting done when she is this cute sitting next to me 24/7!

I adopted Celeste back in 2009, from my dear friend who rescued her as a stray off the street. She has been my BFF ever since, and is the sassy, adoring, and fiercely loyal definition of a true tortie, with all the tortitude and then some. SO much personality and diva magnificence in one small cat! 🖤

She also has a beautiful painterly tortoiseshell pattern of orange, black, and white fur and little fur boots, pink bean toes, and is SO soft - like a chinchilla!

Snapshot of my desk! Does your workspace have a mood / do you cultivate a specific vibe that helps you get focused and in the flow of your work?

In my workspace, I thoroughly enjoy surrounding myself with beautiful, meaningful, inspiring things. Photos of loved ones, poetry framed in jewel-tone velvet, pretty fossils, rocks from travels, incense and candles, that sort of thing. My desk is painted black and has an earthy / rustic sort of feel to the decorations (which I love!)

There's also a couple handy vials of dried herbs and a bunch of silk moth and butterfly clips perched in various places (you never know when you'll quick need one to land in your hair for a zoom meeting!)

February has me gravitating towards culinary recipes with flowers, a softer-than-usual color palette, museum visits to admire art (when in normal non-pandemic times), and expressive watercolor painting. I dream of taking portraits outdoors amongst the blooming flowers while sipping my favorite rose petal tea. I start working on new botanical perfume projects and quietly dream and work and dream.. . and wait.. *
