Sad to report on the passing of Retired Lieutenant Jim Huckel

James E. Huckel Obituary
James E. Huckel passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026 at the age of 76 with his devoted wife by his side.

He is survived by his children Philip, Jennifer and Andrea; and his 2 grandchildren.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love shared with his beloved wife Jeanne nee Novack; his brother Michael husband of Marie. He will be deeply missed by Lauren Philipp wife of Bob, Colleen Connors and Patrick Halligan; and six grandchildren who affectionately called him Poppy. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by many beloved siblings who passed away way too young.

Jim was a proud graduate of Northeast Catholic High School class of 1968. His desire to help his community led him to a 35 year career with the Philadelphia Fire Department where he retired as a Lieutenant. His love of music led him to become a charter member and first bass drummer of the Philadelphia Police & Fire Pipes and Drums. Duty, honor and community were truly three words that Jim not only lived by-he emulated them.

Family, friends and fellow firefighters are welcomed to gather on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 11 AM until Noon at Resurrection Cemetery, 324 Kings Highway Cape May Court House NJ 08210. A service to honor Lt. James Huckel will begin at Noon. Interment will immediately follow.

In leui of flowers, donations can be made to the Philadelphia Firefighters Local 22 Widows Fund 415 North 5th Street, Philadelphia PA 19123 or your local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

“If you love your job you never work a day in your life.”- Lt. James Huckel
