I can’t take short cuts with editing. I can’t just apply the same color filter to every photo bc that one filter might not work with every skin tone. I can’t simply put a blur action on skin because that looks too fake. I can’t always remove something from the background without it looking obvious - but know I will always try my best to do so.

Retouching takes time bc a sign of good retouching is when you can’t tell what was done.

“Food is happiness.” I laugh as I say it to my mom while eating my breakfast (and drinking my latte) this morning. Then we got on a tangent about how there are so many little ways to find joy.

Happiness is a slow morning, a delicious latte, a unique candle, exploring a new place, chatting w/a friend, laughing w/your family, the erewhon hot bar.

Most people choose not to see it in their every day.. but we’re not most people and we choose to find the joy. So tell me.. what is happiness to you?

I’m sure that, like me, you’ve heard this quote a million times… but for some reason it recently hit me differently. When the weddings are over, the photoshoot ended and the guests have gone home, the best part of being married is when you get to slow down together.

Life moves fast and we move fast right along with it (that’s what makes it fun) so I love a good reminder to slow down once in a while and really enjoy that cup of coffee w/ someone you love.

You already know how much I freakin love my job and how I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to get to work with you guys… so today, to celebrate World Photography Day, I wanted to share a little bit on how photography as a career has truly changed my life.

My least favorite photo to see from someone’s wedding day is the veil flying through the air photo.Controversial? Maybe....

My least favorite photo to see from someone’s wedding day is the veil flying through the air photo.

Controversial? Maybe. But this photo needs to be *so* specific to be done well.

The veil can’t be just a horizontal line in the wind and it also can’t be so huge that it takes over the photo from every corner. It can’t be too angular w/harsh lines or too circular where it’s just a distracting blob. It can’t take away from the bride (bc she is the star and it’s just an accessory) and it can’t be so obtrusive that it takes away from the scene completely.

It’s just so rare that everything works out perfectly & a veil in the wind photo looks natural …but judging by Kim’s veil photos, rare doesn’t mean impossible.
