I obviously don’t know what your favorite photo from your wedding gallery is going to be when I’m taking it.

And THAT is why I’m always watching.

Because yes, Bri and Abdul looked absolutely incredible at the Crystal Tea Room and obviously we are going to take the big, beautiful, frame-it-in-your-house wedding portraits.

But then there are moments like these!

A little kiss on the cheek while someone else is fixing your dress. The kind of thing that happens in two seconds while everyone is getting ready for the “next” photo, and then suddenly it’s one of the sweetest images in the gallery.

There is SO much happening around you on your wedding day that you physically cannot see it all. Your people are laughing and crying and hugging and having entire little moments of their own while you’re busy, you know, GETTING MARRIED!!!

So while I’m photographing all the big stuff you know is happening, I’m also constantly looking around for the stuff you don’t.

Your mom staring at you while you’re getting ready, your best friend losing it during your vows. Grandma on the dance floor, the tiny little hand reaching up to hold yours, the people you love loving you right back.

You might not even know I took some of these photos until you open your gallery.

I think that’s what makes them so special 🤍

This is exactly why I will forever encourage you to have FUN with your engagement session.

Want to run around a gorgeous garden pretending you’ve just inherited an English estate and Mr. Darcy is about to come strolling around the corner? I’m also in!

Want to live out your punk rock fantasy in a dive bar with flash photos and a leather jacket? PLEASE call me.

Want black tie in the middle of the city, barefoot on the beach, martinis at your favorite bar, pizza at midnight, motorcycles, an old bookstore, your favorite record shop, or something so specifically YOU that I never would have thought of it myself? Even better!

Your engagement photos don’t have to look like anyone else’s engagement photos. This is quite literally your opportunity to pick a fantasy and let me make you look really freaking good living it.

Beautiful can be romantic and timeless and straight out of a Jane Austen novel. Beautiful can also be loud and weird and covered in tattoos.

Personally, I like having room for all of it. 🖤

And Erica and Will running around Winterthur Gardens looking like THIS??? I rest my case. Can’t wait to do it again with them in the French Quarter next year 🤍

What, like photographing your wedding is hard?? ✨💅 

Please consider this my official application to be your wedding photographer! My qualifications include being aggressively over-prepared, thriving in chaos, finding good light ANYWHERE, knowing exactly when you need a very enthusiastic hype girl vs. a minute to breathe, and firmly believing that your wedding photos can serve equal parts editorial chic and punk rock edge! 

Most importantly, I care A LOT about the people I photograph. I want to know what matters to you, what makes you comfortable, your story, and what you actually want your wedding to feel like, because your photos should look like YOUR wedding! Not just a day that I manufactured for my portfolio. 

So with that being said… did I win?? 👀💖

I fear this is what happens when you really love your job AND have absolutely no ability to tell yourself “maybe that’s enough for one weekend”

Three states, two weddings, an engagement session, a truly offensive amount of time in my car and, somewhere along the way, one lens deciding she was ready to leave the nest… rude!
Was this weekend slightly unhinged? Yes. Did I willingly create this schedule for myself? Also yes!!!

BUTTT I got to watch two couples get married, photograph another couple in one of the most exciting seasons of their lives, dance around with some of my favorite people, make a ridiculous amount of beautiful s**t and somehow still have moments where I looked around and thought “wait, this is my JOB???”

So anyway, I have learned absolutely nothing and will continue saying “yeah I can totally make that work” with reckless confidence.

And don’t worry I already got my new lens to replace my run-away!

“I’m not photogenic” is one of the first things I hear from couples and respectfully, you have no idea what you’re talking about!

You are not supposed to know how to stand, where to put your hands, what your “good side” is, or how to somehow look deeply in love while also wondering if your chin looks weird. That sounds exhausting and I don’t want that for you!!

I want you laughing, I want you moving, I want you annoying each other and being affectionate in the way you ACTUALLY are when nobody is taking your picture. And when you need a little help, hi hello, that is quite literally why I am there!! Would you tell your hair stylist you don’t know how to cut and style hair? Or your tattoo artist you can’t draw? NOOO! So don’t tell me you can’t pose because I promise you can, especially with a lil help from me- your posing expert ;)

Some of my favorite moments during shoots are when I show someone the back of my camera and they go “WAIT THAT’S US?!”

YES BABE. THAT’S YOU!!!!

You were never bad at taking pictures, you just needed someone behind the camera who made you forget you were taking them 🤭🖤

I LOVE food, which means getting to try different foods at weddings is one of the many little joys of this job. Give me allll the family recipes, cultural traditions, cocktail hour snacks and whatever dessert you’re obsessed with. I want it ALL, thank you!

Of course, actually finding a second to eat said food while photographing a wedding is a different story entirely. I always pack a million snacks and food but it’s always a gamble if I’m actually going to get a chance to eat any of it 😅

Some days we’re eating a beautiful vendor meal, some days I’m inhaling a chicken wrap during cocktail hour, and apparently some days we’re starting with frozen yogurt and hoping for the best.

And yes, there WILL be ice cream when I get home. That part is non-negotiable, not apologizing for it either!! 

Soo- This is what this wedding day was like food wise- definitely one of the better fed days!!

If I could give you ONE piece of advice when choosing your wedding photographer, please make sure you actually feel comfortable around them!!!

Emma and Steve’s wedding is the perfect example of why I say this.

This one made my heart melt into a MILLION pieces because I knew them separately in college before they ever became Emma & Steve.

Emma was one of my environmental science friends and one of the only people I could happily talk about bugs and whacky nature with for hours on end. I met Steve in a completely different class, where we bonded over tattoos, and exchanging “what the hell is happening” looks across the room at our professor hehe

So finding out these two were together and then getting to PHOTOGRAPH THEIR WEDDING?! Are you kidding me???

They already knew me, they trusted me, and they felt comfortable being completely themselves around me. I swear you can FEEL that in these photos.

Your photographer is going to be with you for HOURS on one of the biggest and most emotional days of your life. You should feel comfortable being weird around them, you should be able to laugh with them, and you should trust them enough that you’re not thinking about the camera every five seconds.

That’s what I want for every couple who steps in front of my camera, whether we met in college or we met because you found me on Instagram last week!

When Erin and Connor asked me to come to Vegas for their wedding I said yes before they even finished the sentence and I would make that decision a thousand times over (Sorry for interrupting you guys).

Something I don’t think people talk about enough with destination weddings is that you also get rehearsal dinner coverage included and I truly cannot stress how much this matters! The night before a wedding is so wildly underrated as something worth documenting and even if you’re not doing a destination wedding, please get the rehearsal dinner photos. Seriously... I’m begging you.

Everyone’s still riding that almost-married high, the room is packed with the people who matter most, the drinks are good (the duck at Mott 32 deserved its own portrait session, I don’t make the rules but I will enforce them) and the energy in that room is something you literally will never feel again. The laughter goes way past everyones bedtimes, the toasts make you sob like a baby, and I got to be there for all of it.

Your story doesn’t start when you walk down the aisle. The whole weekend counts and if you want someone there for more than just the big day, hi, that’s me! 🖤
