It's November! A month that we typically have a lot going on. On the one hand, it marks the start of the holiday season. On the other, it's the non-official start of the new year as we start listing our goals. It can be overwhelming to think about everything I want to accomplish.

Remember, your headshot session is the perfect time to keep things super simple and show up as YOU.
Minimize the Makeup
You don't need to pile on tons of makeup. You want to look like yourself at your finest, not like you were trying too hard. Do your hair and makeup the same way you would when you meet your clients.
Simplify the Outfit
Stick with basic, classy looks. You'll be noticed for your professionalism, not the distracting patterns on your clothes. You can wear a simple shirt or blouse with a little texture.
Stay Recognizable
Chill out on the retouching. Your clients want you to look just like your picture. It's about representing yourself as you are on your best day, beautiful wrinkles and all.

Featuring a headshot photographer at events is popular nowadays. I've done those events, and I want to clarify a common misconception. Because you may think that since a pro took your headshot, you shouldn't hate it. And for the same reason, you may blame yourself. Right here, right now--I give you permission to hate your swag headshot. But I want you to know why.
Like other business owners at the event, the photographer is there to promote and network, not gift their premium goods. So temper your expectations. You can't expect the photographer to hand out Montblanc pens while everyone else is handing out BIC's.
When you're good and ready to pay for your headshot, I promise...you will love it.
Does this scenario sound familiar? You're a speaker at a conference. All the marketing for the event has your headshot on it, online and printed. It's even on a huge poster at the event entrance. You walk in, and no one recognizes you. Eerie silence.
The fact is many women cut corners to save a few dollars or they feel being photographed is a pain in the ass. As a result, they use their headshot longer than they should or mess it up in other ways.
Today, let's talk about money. A kickass headshot can cost $300 or more. But it's also your most powerful marketing tool, so hiring a pro is worth every cent. Here's what goes into getting it right.
๐Expression is everything and only a seasoned pro can coach you through this process and make sure that eyes are alive, bright and expressive.
๐Lighting. Studio or Natural? Each has a different feel, a pro will help you select which one is right for you.
๐Framing, Positioning & Background. Although it's called a headshot, a shot of your head makes a good passport photo and not much else. A pro knows what will work best for most scenarios.

Happy ! It's been a while, but the break from social media did me well, and the reality is---my home needed me more. The part I live in with its long list of unfinished projects and chock-full stuff was weighing me down.
I wish I could have taken you on my journey, but I was laser-focused on each phase. Like when I took my extensive collection of china + entertaining chachkis, packed it in my wagon, and dropped it off at Goodwill. Ciao! Martha Stewart version of me! Oh, she's been gone for a while, but her stuff was all over the place!
I'm almost done with my gardening---planted more roses in the front yard--and will grow my herbs when the weather warms up.
I celebrated my 56th birthday last weekend. It was beautiful to have my family over in my newly uncluttered home with its fresh energy. And this is my redhead.

You may have heard about beauty or glamour photography, but what is a LEGACY photography session? Of course, a photography session will make you feel beautiful and glamorous, but it's more than skin deep. It's about celebrating this version of YOU because you will never see her again. It is about discovering something new about yourself or finding self-acceptance. And, of course, you will leave your legacy for generations to come with gorgeous photos. That's why we call it a LEGACY session.
Love Test No. 1. Is your first date at a Knicks game? Order a hotdog with barbequed onions and a large Coke. Spill it on yourself, him, and the people sitting in front of you. Then, go clean yourself up. Buy yourself another hotdog with barbequed onions and a Coke, and unapologetically go back to your seat smelling of onions and enjoy the rest of the game. If he shows up the next day, he's a keeper.
Love Test No. 2. He's coming over, and your fridge is empty as usual. Leave it that way. If he starts bringing dinner and cocktails, he's a keeper.
Love Test No. 3. Work your way through a box of chocolates until you find your favorite. Found it? Now eat all your favorites and leave the package of discarded wrappers and bitten yukky ones for him to see. If he gets over it, he's a keeper.
