Saturday was an absolute awesome day. After 2 months of training for our half marathon in September, we signed up for our first Ultra Race. Cause why not?! Lets really test ourselves. So lets sign up for a Ragnar Relay Solo 6 hour Ultra.
Friday we made thr drive to Ohio. Made sure to eat well and hydrate, ALOT. We worked our tail off to prepare for this race. We did forget one really important thing though. OHIO HAS HILLS. Its not flat like Michigan. The goal was minimum 18 miles. We thought that might be a little high, but why not. When we saw all the hills, we weren't sure if 18 was going to be possible.
After 5 1/2 hours of running, we hit the 18 mile mark. It was an absolute smoker though! But we had so much fun, we cant wait to do another one. I dont think either one of us had been physically tested like that in many years. 100% worth it though.

Started with: “Can I finish a half marathon?”

Now we’re training for a 6-hour trail race.

At 46 years old, this stopped being a challenge and became an obsession with becoming the best version of myself possible.

Every run. Every recovery day. Every early morning. Every mile.

1% better every day.

We’re not done yet.

Today’s workout was basically me volunteering for suffering. 🤣
Started the morning with an hour of medicine ball strength training, and that workout was a full-on smoker. Then I strapped on the weighted vest loaded with 16 pounds and knocked out a 3 mile zone 2 treadmill walk.
Nothing flashy. Just slow, sweaty, grind-it-out work.
Funny thing is, younger me would’ve laughed at “zone 2 walking.” Current me is realizing this slower training stuff actually works. Turns out not redlining your body every single workout might be a smart idea after all.
18 days till Ragnar. 123 days till the half marathon. Still a long road ahead, but we’re getting there one sweaty basement workout at a time. 👊

I may not break any speed records out there, but I should at least be in the running for best dressed. 🤣
Honestly just excited to get out there, have some fun, and see what the day brings. That’s what it’s all about.

Trying to get smarter with training this year, not just faster. More endurance, more strength, more mental toughness. I already know those easy runs aren’t about to feel so easy anymore.
This thing goes up to 40 pounds… but don’t worry, I’m not trying to die on day one 😂
Half marathon prep just got a little more interesting.

Meanwhile I’m sitting here with tuna, salad, and rice bowls smelling cheeseburgers and fries like it’s psychological warfare.
The struggle is real 😂
Still though… moments like this are hard to beat. Matching Grogu crowns, good laughs, and hanging out with one of my favorite little dudes. I’ll take that trade every time.
Anybody else trying to eat clean while the rest of the house is out here living their best fast food life? 🍔😂

About to do something I NEVER thought I would do…
I signed up for my first ultra running event… which basically means I paid money to run in circles in the woods for 6 hours 😂
It’s a 5.3 mile trail loop, and you just keep going… lap after lap… until your legs or your brain decides it’s had enough.
This one’s gonna test everything—endurance, mindset, and probably my life choices somewhere around hour 4.
But honestly… it looks like an awesome event at a killer location, and I’m fired up to take it on.
Sometimes you’ve just gotta send it and see what happens.
Anyone ever done one of these before?
