It's National Coloring Book Day!

Do you remember the excitement of opening a brand-new coloring book? The crisp pages filled with outlines of animals, princesses, superheroes, and fantastical worlds waiting to be brought to life. Each page presented an opportunity to let our imaginations run wild. The smell of fresh crayons, the satisfaction of staying within the lines (or not!), and the sense of accomplishment upon completing a page – these are memories that many of us hold dear.

National Hot Dog Day. I'm a few days late for it, but I remembered I had photos from visiting the Howard County Fair several years ago. It was kind of surreal watching this regional Nathan's contest in person after watching the national one for years on tv.

This photo sits on a shelf in my home. The little girl in it grew up to be me — and somewhere along the way, I learned what a portrait really does. It doesn't just capture an image. It keeps a piece of someone that would otherwise exist only in fading memory.
