Nothing sweeter than a cuddly baby girl tucked right into her mama. šŸ¤

Tiny hands and sleepy snuggles. This season of motherhood asks so much of you physically. Someone always wants to be held, carried, rocked, or curled up against you. It can be a lot, but there’s something so beautiful about being the place your babies want to be closest to.

One day they won’t need your arms quite this much. For now, soak in the weight of them. 🄹

Fort Pickens is one of my favorite locations to photograph at, especially in the fall! I have some favorite little spots tucked around the park, and around sunset, the light here is absolutely gorgeous. ✨

We can even head over to the beach for the end of your session if you’d like, giving you a little bit of both in your gallery!

Fall full session availability is limited, so get on my calendar while you can! šŸ‚ My Fall Sale is happening now with $100 off any session booked for this fall!

Comment FALL and I’ll send over all the info! šŸ¤Ž

There is currently a trend of photographers announcing they won’t be sharing kids faces anymore on social media… I echo the sentiment written here by Willow Bee Photography.

I will continue to share photos with permission as outlined in my contract, and I’m always happy to amend the contract if you prefer that photos from your session not be shared.

Another photographer(Fiona Margo) I admire mentioned something in her insta story today about how haunting it is to let creepy men erase children from society. And I agree with that too.

Alsooo I took that photo of her and her cutie family ā¤ļøā¤ļø

Okay y’all, I’ve been seeing a LOT of photographers copy and pasting their statements about no longer posting their clients’ children because of the recent ruling surrounding AI generated CSAM.

And listen… I understand the fear. I understand wanting to protect children. I’m a parent too, and protecting kids should ALWAYS be the priority.
But I’m going to give y’all a little different perspective from this ā€œsmall town photographerā€ over here.

I’m currently not planning to stop posting my clients’ families… as long as I have their parents’ permission.

That doesn’t mean I don’t care about my clients as many of these post from photographers are implying. It doesn’t mean I don’t care about their privacy. And it definitely doesn’t mean I’m unaware of the dangers that exist online.

I just don’t think photographers who have permission from a child’s parent should suddenly be treated like we’re part of the problem.

Honestly, I’ve never posted a family who wasn’t already comfortable putting their family online. And I’ve adjusted plenty of contracts to not include a model release for those families who don’t post their families. I’m not sneaking pictures of anybody’s babies onto Facebook. Their parents know. They see the images. They give me permission.

And here’s something else I’ve been thinking about…
A LOT of the photographers saying they won’t post children anymore are still using AI in their businesses.
AI is built into so many of the programs we use now. Photoshop has AI. Editing programs have AI. There are AI tools being used for calls, marketing, editing, culling, and all kinds of things.

I haven’t even updated my Photoshop since 2023. And honestly?! I’ve intentionally left it that way because I don’t WANT to see how much easier AI can make it to manipulate the images I create. I also don’t like adding my clients photos into ai programs bc many moms like me don’t use programs like chat gpt with their kids faces.

Meanwhile, our kids are living in a world full of cameras.
They go to Walmart.
They go to restaurants.
They go to sporting events.
They go to school.
They walk through parking lots.
There are cameras everywhere.

We hand huge companies access to our photos (think google ā€œallow access to all photosā€)
Many post our kids on social media. People are uploading pictures of their families into AI programs.
So I guess what I’m saying is…
I don’t think the answer is to shame or villainize photographers who make a different decision with informed parental consent.

Maybe our bigger call to action should be aimed at the people who actually make the laws.
Our lawmakers have the ability to create laws that protect children from exploitation and emerging technologies. We should be holding them accountable when those laws fail to keep up.

āŒProtect children.
āŒDemand better laws.
āŒHold lawmakers accountable.
āŒBe informed about the technology we are willingly giving access to our families.

But let’s make sure we’re villainizing the right people.

Elect people who will protect children.
Hold them accountable when they don’t.
Pay attention to what laws are being passed. GET POLITICAL!
It helps no one ā€œstaying neutralā€
Learn what technology we’re giving access to our families.
And please, protect your babies however you feel is right for YOUR family. If you don’t want your child’s picture online, I will absolutely respect that. ā¤ļø

I refuse to believe that photographers are the villains for doing what we’ve been doing for generations…capturing families, sharing our work, and celebrating childhood.
Just a different perspective from your neighborhood photographer. ā¤ļøšŸ“ø
And y’all know I’m always going to speak my mind!

Comment FALL and I’ll send you the coupon code to save $100 on any fall session, including Holland Farms sessions in the beautiful zinnia and sunflower fields! 🌻🌸

Holland Farms sessions are pure magic, and I look forward to photographing in these fields every single year!!! ✨

I’ve had the honor of photographing this sweet family at Holland Farms for the past several years, through so many different seasons of their lives. From their engagement, to expecting their first baby, toddler photos, announcing baby number two, and last year photos with both of their sweet babies. 🄹

Getting to watch your families grow year after year is one of my absolute favorite parts of what I do. šŸ¤Ž

And speaking of fall…

I absolutely LOVE creams and browns on the beach. šŸ¤Ž There’s something about those warm, earthy tones against the soft sand and water that feels so perfect for fall, while still being completely timeless.

You don’t necessarily need traditional fall colors like rust, burnt orange, mustard, burgundy or olive green (although those are lovely too!) to give your fall session that cozy autumn feel. Creams, tans and browns photograph so beautifully on the beach, and paired with warm neutrals and soft textures, they create the perfect subtle fall feeling while still being completely timeless.

This session is the perfect example. This family is the absolute sweetest and I am obsessed with their style!

With so many more sessions still to come this year, I keep thinking about how you really never know what a session is going to give you. Sometimes everything goes exactly as planned… and sometimes the sky completely changes 30 minutes before you’re supposed to start.

That’s exactly what happened with this family.

The forecast looked completely fine all day. Then, about 30 minutes before their session, this massive storm cloud started rolling in over the beach.

And I mean ROLLING in.

There was this incredible line across the sky where the dark, stormy clouds met the prettiest white fluffy clouds, and for a few minutes we just got to watch the whole sky change in front of us.

By the time we started shooting, the wind was FIERCE. Sand was pelting us, hair was going absolutely everywhere, and the rain was coming FAST.

We photographed what we could before calling it, and this sweet family came back for a sunrise session so we could finish what the weather interrupted.

And now they have both. The wild, stormy, windswept part of their story and the soft morning after.

No two days at the beach are ever quite the same. Sometimes golden hour gives us soft skies and calm water, and sometimes it gives us wind, wild hair, and a storm rolling in.

Whatever the evening gives us, there’s always something worth savoring. šŸ¤Ž

It’s officially the end of August, and I’m reflecting on what a busy and beautiful summer it has been. 🄹

From June through the end of August, I photographed 92 sessions, and I am so incredibly grateful for every sweet family who trusted me to document this season of their lives.

If you were one of those 92, thank you.

And an extra special thank you to the families I was lucky enough to photograph again this summer. The ones who choose me year after year, vacation after vacation, and season after season. Getting to document your family time and time again is such an honor, and your loyalty means more to me than you know.

I hope these photographs bring you joy and help you savor this season of your life, even when you are many seasons ahead.

Tomorrow, I’m officially going FULL fall mode. šŸ‚

My annual fall sale is coming early this year! Email subscribers get first access Wednesday, and it opens to everyone on social media Thursday.

When two single parents, both with girls around the same age, find each other and fall in love. ā¤ļø

This session started like so many of mine do. I said hello, introduced myself, and told them they could toss anything from their pockets into my bag while we photographed their family.

I always joke, ā€œDads always have all the things in their pockets!ā€ šŸ˜‚

Dad looked a little nervous, but started emptying his pockets into my bag. Mom looked away for just long enough, and he quickly slipped a little ring box in there too. šŸ„¹šŸ’

What started as a family beach session turned into a proposal and one of the sweetest moments of my summer.

Such a special session and a core memory for everyone involved. Congratulations to this sweet family on the beginning of their next chapter together. ✨
