Today, as we bring awareness of the many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, I want to take a moment and remember the life of 5 yr old Brittany Locklear. Brittany was abducted from her home in Hoke County and murdered on the morning of January 7th, 1998. I was a junior in High School and remember learning about this horrible crime and feeling disgusted about what had happened to her. As I look forward to my own daughter’s 5th birthday later this month, I want to pause and honor this precious life which was needlessly taken away from those who loved and cared for her. Take time today to say a prayer of comfort and peace for her family and the family of many others who are still hoping for some type of closure around the fate of their loved one. Brittany, may you continue to rest in the arms of our Lord.
