When I moved to Asheville after Hurricane Helene, I expected recovery would take time. What I didn’t expect was that nearly two years later, so many places would still be waiting.

Over the past several months, I’ve driven roads lined with damaged infrastructure, passed businesses that never reopened, and wondered about the people whose lives were forever changed by the storm.

As a photographer, I initially couldn’t bring myself to document the devastation. The emotions were simply too overwhelming. But eventually, I realized that perhaps the best way I could contribute was by using my camera and my words to help tell these stories.

“Have These Places Been Forgotten?” is a 4-minutes read photo essay that explores some of the overlooked corners of Western North Carolina that continue to bear the scars of Hurricane Helene.

My hope is not to focus solely on what was lost, but to encourage awareness, conversation, and continued support for communities still recovering.

If you know of a location, business, family, or recovery effort whose story deserves to be shared, I would love to hear from you.

I pressed these flowers a while ago, and I finally took them out of the book where they were drying and organized them into this binder 🍃🌸🤍

I can’t wait to start creating with them—I have so many ideas!

Earlier this year, besides trying snow gliding for the first time (and majorly busting my behind 😅), I didn’t quite get the chance to build a snowman or make a snow angel—saving those for next time.

Time was limited, but I couldn’t leave without capturing a few moments 🤍 There’s something so peaceful about snow-covered moments.

About nine years ago, while attending training with the National Park Service, I took this photo.

I’ve always loved it because it captures both action and stillness—a balance we all try to navigate in our daily lives, personally and professionally.

Today I remain a federal employee, continuing to serve during what feels like one of the most challenging times in public service. In moments like these, I’m reminded that stillness helps bring clarity and perspective.

For me, it’s also in that stillness where I’m reminded that God sees us—especially those still striving to serve with integrity.
“You are the God who sees me.”

I’m really enjoying creating these little ACEO art pieces, each made with lots of love and creativity.

ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals—miniature, highly collectible artworks that measure exactly 2.5 x 3.5 inches, the same size as a trading card.

Some of these started with a small sketch before painting, while others came to life through pure improvisation.

Honoring our departed family members through art 🤍

When my friend shared that she feels close to her grandmother every time she sees a cardinal, my heart immediately connected with her story. When my nephew passed away, our family experienced something similar—we feel his presence when we see Blue Jays.

God’s creation becomes a tender reminder of those we love and a promise of the hope we have in Him—that one day, we will be reunited.

I created this watercolor painting—two cardinals, one parent and one baby—to honor my friend’s love for her grandmother and the bond that continues through God’s grace and eternal love.

If you feel called to honor someone dear to you through meaningful, faith-inspired art, I would be honored to create something special for you 🤍
