One of my favorite things about having repeat clients is that eventually the kids start treating me less like “the photographer” and more like someone they already know.

Which, when you’re five years old, means you absolutely need to show Jaye all your favorite things. And honestly, I love that part just as much as the photos themselves.

I love seeing what changes and what stays exactly the same. And I never stop feeling honored that families keep inviting me back in to document these chapters as they unfold.

I’m lucky enough to say that more than 80% of my clients are repeat clients, which honestly still blows my mind a little bit.

A newborn session is bigger than “we had a baby.” The whole family changes shape around a new little person. 

There’s suddenly a big sister who seems older overnight. Parents learning the rhythms of this brand new human while still trying to hold onto the rhythms of the family they already were. Everybody figuring each other out in real time.

Of course, you want to remember the tiny fingers and milk-drunk snoozes. But you also want to remember the way your daughter wrapped herself around her new sibling like she’d been waiting her whole life for this job.

It’s the story of your family becoming something new.

There’s a moment in almost every session where a parent looks at me like:

“This feels like chaos… there’s no way this is working.”

And I get it. Kids are moving, toys are everywhere, someone’s halfway through building something, someone else is eating a snack.

It doesn’t feel like the kind of moment that turns into photos you’ll love.

But what feels like chaos in the moment is really just your family being your family. That’s what turns into the photos you’ll come back to years from now.

The whispering, the copying, the inside jokes, the sudden bursts of laughter over something no one else quite understands. It’s constantly shifting, changing from one minute to the next.
