Look closely and you'll see I'm wearing shorts and tennis shoes. I was definitely not prepared for the conditions!

One of the first things I learned when I started photography as an awkward 14 year old boy, was that by changing some of the settings on the camera, I could change how much of the image was in focus. I thought it was witchcraft and was fascinated with taking images where I would get only a small part of the subject in focus. I still don't understand the science behind it, but I love the look of images where everything is out of focus except your subject.

I made a video on how to get that blurry background (it's called a shallow depth of field BTW) using only beginner camera equipment. No fancy/expensive lenses needed.

Hey everyone, it's been a while! I hope you're all doing well and surviving these strange times.

I had the opportunity to take my niece's senior portraits the other day and it reminded me of just how much I love taking senior portraits. I've decided to start doing portraits again but for now I will be focusing on only photographing high school seniors.

Today we are having a throw back Tuesday. I was going to tell you the back story to Matt Johnson...not the way way back story, just the back story. Matt graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography with a bachelors degree in Art. He was chosen by his class to be the student speaker at graduation. He was witty, funny and just plain awesome (I'm his wife, maybe a little biased). But if you know Matt that is just who he is! After graduation, we packed up our little uhaul and headed to Boise, Idaho! There we set up business. The original Matt Johnson Photography. We had so many good times and so many great clients. It was an amazing few years of our life.

With the decline of the economy, we packed up our family and moved here to Pasco. It was a hard decision, but a huge blessing. Matt got to take all his amazing skill and talent and start to teach high school! He loves his job now!

Getting portraits taken by Matt Johnson is a great experience! He is fun, he is fast and he is good.

I wanted to share with you one of our favorite clients while we were in Boise. We loved this family and photographed them for years.

We are thrilled to be a part of making memories! Here is Matt's latest photo shoot with Katlyn Hatch. Anyone who knows Katlyn, knows that she is the kindest and nicest person. I think we captured her beauty and her style. We used to live next door to Katlyn. We have watched her grow up into this beautiful young woman. We love her! Thank you for choosing us to do your senior portraits!

It has been a busy busy summer! We have been all over and have been photographing a long the way! I will do my best to catch you up!

This is my parents. Almost 51 years ago, they got married and started a legacy. 7 kids and 27 grandkids later we have quite the group when we get together for a family reunion. Matt is amazing and takes our family portraits. Sometimes things are crazy, but we are getting trained pretty well! Our family is growing with our newest newlyweds! These portraits are preserving a legacy that continues to grow!

This morning we had so much fun photographing the Roundy Family. They were so fun and photographed amazingly! We had to work around this crazy hot weather and photograph at 8 this morning. The good news is the little ones were happy! Thank you Stacy and Amy for choosing Studio J Photography!
