A growing number of schools across the United States are bringing back handwritten assignments, notebooks, and printed materials after concerns that excessive screen time and digital learning have affected focus, memory, and writing skills.

Educators report improvements in classroom engagement and fewer distractions when students rely less on devices.

Students found it easier to organize thoughts on paper, noting that removing screens eliminated temptations to multitask or use AI shortcuts.

Reading confidence leaped from 46% to 95%, and students who initially struggled writing half a page were crafting six to seven pages by hand.

Research has shown that handwriting can improve information retention, comprehension, and recall compared with typing alone, prompting many districts to rebalance technology with traditional learning methods.

I fell in love with ballroom dancing when I was about 7. It took me over 40 years to do it, but I did. And it was so worth it.
