We have a family of great horned owls who have taken over an osprey nest not far from our house. The nest is at the corner of a very busy intersection and very high up. I hope when the young ones fledge, they don't fall to their deaths! Normally these owls nest in trees and the young leave the nest at about 5 weeks, climbing on nearby branches until they learn to fly at about 9-10 weeks. With no branches on this man-made osprey nest, I don't know how the juveniles will learn to fly without falling. 🙁

What a fun photo trek I had today with my new friend, Nancy! We drove to Safari Wilderness to see over 300 acres of wildlife from our own vehicle on a guided drive-through tour of the grounds and the animals that live there. While I took my pro camera and long lens, the animals got so close to us- literally their heads sticking in though the downed windows- that only my cell phone camera could get the closeup shots! We laughed as ostriches and lamas and buffalo and other animals stuck out their tongues seeking the bag of carrots we had tucked away, gently removing them from our fingers and devouring every carrot while slobber dripped onto the car’s interior. One ostrich sought attention by pecking on the car bumper while a water Buffalo busily stuck his very long tongue out, practically in my face, seeking a tasty treat! The zebras was stunning beautiful and the young ones’ stripes had not yet changed from their youthful brown to the mature black that we normally recognize. We got to feed the camels too but the best part was feeding the lemurs! They were curious, fast jumpers, feisty but gentle and I loved every minute feeding and imaging them! So here are a few cell phone images and videos that I think you’ll like. Once I review and edit my ‘big camera’ images, I’ll add a few of them too. For now....enjoy!

Palma Sola Botanical Park, a lush, 10-acre park in Bradenton, Florida, is a hidden gem! It is host to the Manatee Rare Fruit Council, displaying rare and tropical fruit on the grounds. With three lakes on the property, wildlife, including snakes and birds, is plentiful. They even have a tilapia farm in one of the lakes. The butterfly garden was full of colorful butterflies but by the time I found it, I was too hot and tired to take more pictures, so that's my excuse to go back! The staff and volunteers were exceptionally friendly and I would recommend everyone take a few to visit this park!

While I am definitely not a people photographer, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to image our 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. He spoke at a Save America rally in Sarasota, FL on Independence Day weekend. First it was hot, really hot, then I got sunburned, then it poured on us three times with a little lightning thrown in! But minutes after the announcement was made that his plane had landed at the Sarasota Airport, a rainbow appeared and the sun came out from behind the clouds. I'm not kidding...that really happened! I was surprised not to be turned away because I had a professional camera and long lens with me and I was blessed that we were able to get decent seats. So here he is.....Mr. President.

We are fortunate enough to live in Florida and in a community that is home to many species of birds, one of my favorite subjects to photograph. One evening this week, we were blessed to have several different species in one pond at the same time!

In honor of Veteran's Day, here are some photos of the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. It is a tribute to all veterans and provides for nearly 18,200 full casket gravesites, including 15,200 pre-placed crypts, 9,000 in-ground cremains and approximately 7,200 columarium niches. It also has a 2,800 seat ceremonial amphitheater, "Patriot Plaza," which is surrounded by monuments containing Pulitzer Prize winning photographs depicting veterans from all branches of the U.S. Military. It's an impressive and solemn memorial to all who have served our great county.

This week a new friend gave me a tour of Robinson Preserve in Bradenton, Florida. What a lovely place! It's 679 acres of coastal grasslands, saltern, marsh and mangrove habitat, perfect for nature and wildlife photography, especially birds! Here are a few images I took that day.

As a member of the Lakers Car Club, I often take my camera to the cruises so I can get a few photos for the page that I help manage. So, I thought I'd share a few of them here. And until I put together this photo album, I didn't realize that I had such a fascination with circles!

The City of Grafton, IL, held a ceremony today to dedicate the raising of the largest American flag on the Mississippi River. It was a soulful and patriotic event, full of reminders of all the men and women of our armed forces and first responders who made, and continue to make, our country great.

A trip to Alto Pass to image the zinnias at Rendleman's Orchards was well worth the trip! We saw lots of butterflies, bees and a few birds, all enjoying the sun and an abundance of pollen. (These images were all taken with a 100-400mm lens, no macro used here! )
