For me, newborn sessions are about connection, emotion, and storytelling. I know those sleepy, wrapped, cozy newborns are super cute but I want your images to make you FEEL something. Here are a few tips for my future families AND photographers for a lifestyle newborn session that embraces the beauty of real moments:
✨ Give yourself grace with timing – You don’t have to schedule a session within the first week. Waiting until baby is 2-3 months old still allows for tiny, snuggly moments but also gives you sweet wake windows—little smiles, glimpses of their personality, and meaningful interactions.
☀️ Embrace natural light – If your space is on the darker side, set up near a window and lean into tighter crops for that warm, intimate feel without too much negative space.
💛 Infuse meaning into your session – Look around your home—are there sentimental items you can include? A sonogram, a favorite lovey, a cherished family heirloom? These small details add layers of emotion to your images.
👶🏼 Let baby lead the way – Breaks for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing aren’t interruptions—they’re part of the story. Some of the sweetest frames come from these everyday moments, so embrace them!
Newborns have my heart, and it’s such an honor to document these fleeting days for families. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk, link in bio to book your session 🤍
