Honest question...

Almost everyone who visits PCB has a pretty capable camera in their pocket. Today's smartphones can take some incredible photos, and they're FREE to use.

So if you're shopping for photography services, ask yourself this: Are you looking for the cheapest photographer... or are you looking for something your phone can't provide?

If budget is the priority, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using your phone and making memories. But if you're going to invest in professional photography, don't shop by price alone. Shop by experience, consistency, professionalism, and the quality of the final product.

Pay for a quality photographer, folks. Don't skimp on quality photos. Experience matters. No beginner, no AI, and no shortcut can substitute for years spent mastering the craft.

At 40+, the challenging part of photography is squatting for angles and trying to get back up.

This is AWESOME! Y'all did a great job. Honestly, some tourists would pay $500 for photos like these, while others will complain about a $200 quote from a photographer. Goes to show that value is often more about perception than reality.

Okay… retired PCB photographer here again, and this one is meant to educate both the public AND photographers a little bit.

I genuinely think the term “mini-session” has become one of the most misunderstood terms in photography, especially in tourist areas.

Somewhere along the line, people started hearing:
“mini-session”
and translating that into:
“mini-budget custom photoshoot.”

That is not originally what mini-sessions were.

A REAL mini-session is usually PLURAL.

Meaning:
📸 multiple bookings
📸 same day
📸 same location
📸 back-to-back scheduling
📸 shorter shoot times
📸 lower image counts
📸 simplified workflow

That is how photographers are able to offer them at a lower rate.

It is based on VOLUME and EFFICIENCY.

For example:
If a photographer books 8 families back-to-back at one location, they are:
✔️ driving once
✔️ setting up once
✔️ lighting once
✔️ staying in workflow mode
✔️ editing in a more streamlined batch process

THAT is a mini-session setup.

What many people ask for now is:
➡️ a private custom shoot
➡️ at their chosen location
➡️ at their preferred time
➡️ with personalized attention
➡️ but at “mini-session pricing”

And respectfully… that is not really a mini-session anymore.

That is just a smaller package.

And honestly, photographers helped create this confusion too. Somewhere along the line, many started calling every lower-cost package a “mini-session,” and now the public associates the word “mini” with “cheap.”

That has created a LOT of unrealistic expectations on both sides.

I’m not saying beginners shouldn’t exist. Everybody starts somewhere, and some newer photographers are incredibly talented.

I’m also not saying people need to spend thousands on photos.

What I AM saying is:
the terminology matters.

Because words shape expectations.

A true mini-session is usually:
📍 photographer-controlled
📍 time-controlled
📍 location-controlled
📍 volume-based

The client is essentially joining a scheduled event.

That is VERY different from:
“Can I get a mini-session at this random location at sunset on Saturday?”

That is a custom session.

Maybe shorter…
Maybe fewer images…
But still custom.

Honestly, I think the photography industry may need to slowly move away from the term “mini-session” altogether for smaller standalone packages.

Something like:
• Express Session
• Short Session
• Starter Session

…would probably create much healthier expectations for everybody involved.

Anyway, not trying to rant. Just trying to explain where some of the disconnect between photographers and customers comes from these days.

And yes… wording matters more than people think.

Photography is not a right... it's a luxury.
We all have cameras on our phones... use them.
