If you saw my post in December about my brother's plans to spend the holidays with us, then you understand how important family photos are to me (sooooo important!). The day after Christmas, we hit the studio and knocked out some great headshots (yes, I think headshots are fantastic family keepsakes....up close and personal images with authentic expressions? Heck yes!) Some of these images are more viable professionally while others really strike the chord as to how I see my big brother. And what's just as great as having these images for our family records? My brother and I had a great time in the studio sharing precious time together and familiar laughs. Sooo...... anyone else capture some awesome family photos during the holidays?!

This was such a fun session for a young aspiring actor. For professionals, the goal is get a few solid headshots conveying confidence and approachability. For actors, the goal is to get a range of looks and expressions that can open them up to different roles.

One thing I love about what I do is meeting people at all stages of their professional careers. I received a call a few months back from a daughter looking to hire a photographer on behalf of her father. He was being inducted into a hall of fame and needed headshots to submit prior to the event. Fast forward to the session and it was so neat to watch as he beamed with pride telling me about how he was being recognized by his alma mater for his decades long career at that institution. A photo with his wife was a must as well as the headshots. Personal glimpses into the lives of my clients is the little extra something that makes it all so rewarding.

Many of my national clients come to me requesting that I match specific image samples so that company website images have continuity even though the images were captured by different photographers in different locations. While these alternative looks don’t represent my go-to headshot look, I do thoroughly enjoy deconstructing the samples to recreate the lighting needed to match the samples. I guess it could be comparable to the joy a child has when building with legos, except it’s a photographer’s creative process where the building blocks are light components. It’s so rewarding to compare the initial samples to the final images and know you’ve nailed it.

This job was especially rewarding as the out-of-state company that hired me was hosting a conference in my ‘little town’ of Parker. I’ve had many jobs Parker-adjacent (in the Denver metro) but this was the first corporate job that didn’t require a significant amount of travel time. 10 minutes- yes, a 10-minute commute for this on-location job.

Don’t you just love those jobs that really have it all?!

I first photographed Leah in 2019 at a Portraits for Patriots event. Six years later, she reached out to update her headshot to reflect her new look. I was impressed she kept my card all that time! The before and after comparison shows her incredible transformation, highlighting the importance of keeping your headshot current.

The experience is just as important as the final images. When a client is happy about all aspects of working together, I know I've accomplished what I set out to do!
