I’m proud to be part of the Hunt’s Photo Education family and grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences, stories, and lessons learned behind the lens through my “Notes From the Field” blog series.
Photography is about so much more than just the final image—it’s about the moments, the stories, and sometimes the unexpected experiences that happen while we’re out in the field. In this latest post, I share one of those memorable moments from our recent Wild Horses Photo Adventure in Utah.

Our final day of the Hunt’s Wild Horses workshop was nothing short of phenomenal. The skies were absolutely unreal—one of those days you dream about as a photographer.
Often, it’s challenging to show the full environment since we’re required to stay at least 100 feet away from the horses. But this time, the horses came to us. To stay safe and respect the rules, we stayed close to the vehicles—which gave me a rare opportunity to shoot wide and low, almost kneeling under my SUV.
With incredible clouds overhead, I couldn’t help but get low and embrace the scene. We witnessed some beautiful moments—two brothers interacting, and a sweet mare with her foal. Those connections always make the experience even more meaningful.
Between the ever-changing light and a variety of locations, it was the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable adventure. A great group, great stories, plenty of instruction, and lots of laughs along the way.
Thank you once again to our amazing Hunt’s family of participants—and to my partner in crime, Robert R Fletcher—for an absolutely WILD week.
