I’ve had this image on my phone for a while now but haven’t gotten around to posting it. I’ve scrolled past it numerous times in the months it’s been there. Regardless of what I was looking for, I bet I stopped and clicked on this shot at least for a second or two nearly every time. It isn’t that it’s an amazing shot everyone will love, but it’s pretty special to me. It’s a reminder of how much I love early fall. The first flights of mallards, north winds, changing colors, and special places.

Duck hunting is an obsession for most waterfowlers. Within that obsession, we have numerous smaller ones like duck dogs and duck boats which I’ve highlighted here. The list goes on though-guns, decoys, hunting methods…We have strong opinions on all of those topics. Those strong opinions often feel like a negative, but a positive spin would be that we’re just tremendously passionate about waterfowl hunting. Imagine if we focused all that energy on waterfowl, waterfowl conservation, and the real issues impacting them. If we put the duck first, it’s common sense the hunt quality would follow.
