August 4th marked the start of an incredible 20-day adventure. What was originally planned as a 10-day hunt turned into 8 days of hunting, a 4 day weather break, followed by a final 72-hr, 40+ mile all-out effort.
There were plenty of roller coaster moments along the way. But looking back, all of those tough moments and difficult decisions made the final chapter and the whole story that much better.
That’s probably what has changed the most for me over the past 10 years… Maybe not always in the moment, but I’ve grown to love the sore feet, heavy pack, mosquitoes, and any other curveballs each hunt brings. Because when it’s all over and you’re back at home, you look back on those moments and realize they’re the ones that actually made the hunt special, whether it ends in a harvest or not.
This particular trip turned out to be a rollercoaster ride that ended even better than all of my daydreams in the months before the hunt. I’m very thankful to return home with unforgettable memories, meat, horns, and friendships.
