This is my second favorite painting from my art journal Seasons. Titled ā€œEnd Bottom Trawlingā€ and itā€™s inspired by how devastating the impact that bottom trawling has on our oceans. I seriously get emotional looking at it and thinking about what it means to me.

Bottom trawling can damage fragile seafloor habitats, disrupt marine ecosystems, and contribute to biodiversity loss. Beyond the damage to the ocean floor, trawl fisheries also catch thousands of Chinook and chum salmon as bycatch, adding pressure to already struggling salmon populations. These fish are essential to Alaskaā€™s wildlife, Indigenous communities, subsistence traditions, and local economies. Salmon are more than a commercial resource. They are a vital part of the ecological balance that connects our oceans, rivers, forests, and wildlife. With climate change already threatening marine ecosystems, I believe we have a responsibility to demand stronger bycatch regulations, greater habitat protections, and more sustainable fishing practices.
