I think this is one of my favorite photos of this year. I think this is definitely calendar material--- maybe even cover of the calendar? Seems to have everything we like: colorful flowers, snow/ice, water and mountains. What do you think? This photo of the dwarf fireweed & flowers on shore with ice bergs floating was made near Kenai Fjords National Park out of Seward, Alaska.

This image was made with a Canon R5 Mark II with a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 lens lens at 21mm at 1/100 seconds at f/5.0 at ISO 100 with a polarizer on a tripod. This image was “Focus Stacked” from 8 separate exposures.

This summer landscape photo of an iceberg floating in Resurrection Bay was calved off of Bear Glacier (background). I’d guess and say we are 30-ish miles from the glacier. The Kenai Mountains and Kenai Fjords National Park are in the background. We are on a boat out of Seward, Alaska. I think this might be calendar worthy just cause it’s unusual? What do you say?

I always tell people that one of my most favorite places is Prince William Sound. And you just can't beat Prince William Sound on a good day. And this was a most good, stunning day. There have certainly been times out there when it's not so good with big waves and sideways rain. That's not a lot of fun. But still a great place to be. This Summer landscape of trees and tundra with hanging glaciers and Chugach Mountains is in Harriman Fjord.

This summer landscape of a large creek flowing through rocks with dwarf fireweed and the Talkeetna Mountains in background was made early in the morning north of Palmer, Alaska. I like the serene feeling of this.

This image was made with a Canon R5 Mark II with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens at 24mm at 30 seconds at f/22 at ISO 100 with a 6-stop ND filter, 3-stop GND hard and a polarizer on a tripod.

And who doesn't like puffins? Fun creatures and they fly like little meteors. The fly SO FAST that back in the day it was quite tough to get a sharp photo of them in flight. But with the new cameras and autofocus lenses, it makes it much, much easier. These little guys were on a cliff above Resurrection Bay out of Seward Alaska. This image was made from a boat with a Canon R5 Mark II with a Canon EF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 at 500mm at 1/1250th second at f/7.1 at ISO 6400 (auto) handheld.

Jeff's Favorite Photo Friday!!
For some reason, I really like this photo just because this tufted puffin was strutting along this rock ridge and I caught him with his foot up in the air! You know some people think puffins, both tufted and horned, look a lot like clowns. Well, I guess I could tend to agree. What I recently learned is that when you see a group of puffins, they are called “a circus”. I thought that was cool and appropriate. This photo was made from a rocking boat in Prince William Sound next to a small island.

This image of ice bergs floating in a lagoon with the Kenai Mountains was made from a kayak at sunset in Kenai Fjords National Park, Seward, Alaska. One must be careful when kayaking around these bergs, as they do roll every now and then or a chunk of them will fall off into the water. Don’t you just love the luminescence of the sun coming through the berg? This image was made with a Canon R5 Mark II with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens at 24mm at 1/320th second at f/10 at ISO 320 handheld.

Can you say, “Awwwwww, so cute !” I knew you could! A sea otter with her pup on her belly swims in Resurrection Bay, Seward, Alaska on a beautiful summer day. Amazing creatures, they can dive up to 300 feet to reach the sea floor and they consume 20 or so pounds of food—sea urchins, crab and clams every day! The pups weigh 3 to 5 pounds at birth and because their fur is so buoyant they must stay on the surface when mom dives for food and on the mother's belly during the day. Sea otters have the most dense fur of any animal on the Earth. Believe it or not, this extreme fur density contains close to one million hairs per square inch— how is that even possible and who counted them I wonder? This makes their fur extremely water resistant, which prevents water from ever touching their skin and provides a ton of Insulation. They can stay warm in the coldest of water. No wonder the Russian, American and British fur traders nearly decimated them when they were hunting the otter for their pelts back in the day. Alaska natives can still hunt otters and use their pelts like they have been since day one.
