We’ve been to quite a few museums here in our three weeks so far in Greece. Probably one or two too many. They tend to get old. No pun unintended. Though it is fascinating seeing stuff that’s around 1000 years or more before Christ. And a lot of good biblical stuff as well. It’s really something to see how much devastation to artwork has been done over the millennia. Reminds me of what’s going on in France right now. Sad, but true. Many, many statues end up being headless. Like these in Corinth, Greece.

It’s quintessential Hydra (pronounced “Eedra”) island transportation in Greece. The towns/island elected years ago to ban all cars, motorcycles and bicycles. Only a few emergency vehicles and sanitation vehicles exist there. People walk. So they move heavy things around via donkeys or electric pallet jacks. I love seeing household building materials being lashed down on these animals. Pretty cool. Reminds me of Oatman, Arizona.

The ancient theater at Epidarious. From the fourth century BC. Well known because of its acoustics. I sat at the very top of the theater… where this view is from and we could hear Joan and Carly sing while standing down in the center of the stage. But it didn’t last very long. 14,000 people can sit here. And they still have performances in the summertime. While we were there a group of teenagers sang a really great song acapella. Was in another language, but it was just wonderful to hear in those surroundings. Cool stuff around here.

How often do you end up finding the exact place that is on the cover of a tour book you’re using when you’re in another country? I was absolutely floored that our daughter-in-law Carly found this location. It is in a walled fortress city called Monemvasia in Greece. WAY COOL town with tiny cobblestone streets. Scary slippery and crooked rocks on the steep streets. No cars…couldn’t fit one. That’s Joan and me standing in the second picture. Obviously a lot of time has gone by since this cover photo was taken as the tree’s branches are bigger as is the ivy. What a cool thing.
Monemvasia is likely one of the oldest continually inhabited fortified towns in Europe. From the sixth century. We spent the night there in a really old place that had more stone stairs and more porticos you had to duck through than seemed safe.

This raft of sea otters was made outside of Seward, Alaska in the Resurrection Bay area. That white thing in the background is a glacier in the left-hand side. You can see in the middle bottom here one of the sea otters has a very light-colored head. That means he’s a grandpa. Typically when otter’ rafted up like this, they’re always rafting up in the same s*x. This image was made in Manual Mode with a Canon R5 Mark II with a Canon EF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 at 223mm at 1/1250th second at f/5.0 at ISO 160 (auto) handheld.
