FACES of IDITAROD FAIRBANKS-- Looking for Iditarod finishers in the Fairbanks area... I'll be there this coming Friday and Sunday photographing & interviewing a good number of Fairbanks area Finishers... It's amazing when you realize that God's plan for your life is far bigger than the dreams you have for yourself.

I've always loved adventure and spending time in the wilderness, but becoming connected to the world of dog sledding and the legendary Iditarod was more than I ever imagined. What started as a passion for the outdoors turned into an incredible opportunity when I was asked to photograph and follow the Iditarod across Alaska from the air with a private pilot.

Looking back, I'm reminded that God often leads us beyond our comfort zones and into experiences we never could have planned on our own. Sometimes the greatest adventure begins when we trust His direction and embrace the unexpected.

FACES OF IDITAROD IN FAIRBANKS June 19I am continuing with my personal project of photographing every finisher of the Iditarod for my historical archive “FACES OF IDITAROD". I'm slowly chipping away at the hundreds of finishing mushers needed.

To that end, I will be in Fairbanks over the summer solstice photographing and interviewing mushers who live in the Fairbanks, Delta Junction, North Pole, Two Rivers areas.

Any Iditarod finisher that isn't yet part of my historic archive, FACES of Iditarod, is invited to come by Iditarod headquarters in Wasilla, AK for a photo and brief interview to be included.

It is my goal to include EVERY Iditarod finisher in the project and I am picking away at the 100s that are left.

Many of you know I've had many adventures traveling the Iditarod Trail as their official photographer for 39 years. A good number of those adventures included, one way or another, the fine folks at Rainy Pass Lodge--- Barry Stanley & The Perrins Family.
Master hunting guide Buckey Winkley has been a staple at the lodge since 1964 and I first met him during my first race in 1981.
He has quite the stories and I have saved some of his stories as a subject for both my FACES OF ALASKA and FACES OF IDITAROD projects. Check them out.
Buckey has helped me get some amazing Iditarod photos by guiding me on his sno-go many times. AND... he's quite the artist... both with camera, pen & ink and bronze sculptures.

Typically, I photograph without much sky and teach my photo tour clients the same thing. Unless there's something special about the sky, no need to put a lot of it in the photo. But on a morning like this, it's all about the sky. Love this view of Pioneer Peak, Goat Mountain and Twin Peaks of the Chugach Range with the Matanuska River in the lower part.

This image was made with a Canon R5 Mark II with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens at 24mm at 1 second at f/8 at ISO 100 with a 6-stop ND-polarizer combo filter on a tripod.

MEMORIAL DAY I’m remembering today the countless number of service members who had served our nation so very well--- even to the point of the ultimate sacrifice of death for my and our freedoms we enjoy today. I don't take that lightly at all.

I remember visiting the beaches of Normandy, France two decades ago where on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the allies landed to begin the stopping of Hi**er. And when I looked around and saw all the kids and people playing on that beach. My first thought was "How can they desecrate this place by laughing and running where thousands of men died… and just up on the hill not far away were their graves?" Then I got to thinking differently. The reason they died is so we all have the freedom to play on that beach and many other beaches around the world.

I am most grateful for ALL our service members, past and present, doing a part to keep the world a free place. Godspeed to you all!
