A pleasant stroll through Indian Canyon Estates affords such views as this one. Typical of the mid century modern design, the minimal architecture emphasizes clean lines, geometric shapes and symmetry. This home derives inspiration from the southwestern Pueblo style, perhaps the ancestor to MCM. Pastel colors of the 50's indicate whimsy and optimism. In this particular subject, while it looks inaccessible, there is actually a path around the reflecting pool to the door. I love the high horizontal windows that capture the light while preserving privacy and security as well as allowing the room to be decorated without window interruption enabling the entire home to become an art gallery. Notice the elevated lawn, an especially unique feature. Off screen to the left is a generously sized two car garage. Also popular in this time and motif are exaggerated front lanterns. While there are larger ones out there, these beauties shine on decade after decade.

Submitted for your contemplation, the rear exterior wall of a now defunct warehouse, Anytown, USA. A long forgotten, banged up barrel remains the sole remnant of a bygone era. It stands in stark contrast to a common scene, nature taking back, ever so gently, what was once hers all along. In another 50 years, even less of the building will likely remain. In its place, perhaps a park or a playground, the harmonious convergence of man and planet earth.
The function of choosing 'saturation' of colors is to highlight the fundamental contrast between man-made trappings and the slow, silent movement of the natural world. The inert juxtaposed with the organic, we see duality between the two; one consuming the other in a seemingly endless cycle.

Like the circuit labyrinth on a contemplative walk, this ripple effect image induces in the viewer a relaxed state. Even devoid of any color, the multitudinous shades of gray with the repeating swirl formation are a soothing pattern, like a mandala reduced to its most basic shape and form. I believe this was originally a shot of a defunct factory located in Castle Hill.

Urban art is perceived as uniquely as the observer's perspective. With an abundance of public art in Atlanta, the subject material available is rich. Here is a typical sampling. I have saturated the colors to highlight contrast and visual delight. Part acid trip, part community message board, this particular mural says something to all. The energy and robustness of the artist's intention is undeniable. Further, the juxtaposition between the adjoining natural green space and this acrylic polymer medium embodies a distinctive visual tension.

From a visual standpoint, pattern repetition in nature has always intrigued me. In this particular snapshot, the juxtaposition between the delicate jellyfish and yet the danger they pose if merely brushed against is a provocative scenario.

Somewhere in southeast Atlanta around 2006, this vintage barbershop has stood the test of time. Here, ghosts of the past mingle with visions of the present and future. What I love most about using sepia as a photo finish is it truly blurs the line of distinction between then and now. By removing life's linear timeline, we are able to step outside our normal box we call reality and take a moment to reflect on where we came from, where we stand now, and perhaps what lays ahead.
