Have you ever had someone not be excited for you while you chase hard after your dreams?

If so, this post is for you. 🤍

So picture this: you’ve started your dream business. You’ve dedicated time, money, sleep, blood, sweat, and tears. And you’re starting to see the fruit of all your hard work coming to the surface. And all of the sudden, out of left field, someone doesn’t support what you’re doing.

I’ve had many moments like this. So, in an effort to help and love on you, I want to give you some practical tools on what to do if this is your reality.

My first piece of advice I’d give to anyone struggling with this situation is to put blinders on. I’m not talking about ignoring helpful advice like, “Hey, you’re putting a lot of time into this business. Maybe it’s time to prioritize things better.” I’m talking about those moments when people try to manipulate you to stop chasing your dreams because it doesn’t align to the 9-5 American work routine. Anytime you feel someone not understanding and devaluing your dreams, kindly put those blinders on and smile while you keep on chasing your dreams.

My second piece of advice is to make sure your heart isn’t looking for approval from others. Are you trying to be successful so that mom, dad, husband, friends, or family look at you and say, “Wow! That’s amazing! SHE’S amazing!” Because that is the quickest way to lose steam and when those who approve decide to change their minds, you’re left floundering and wondering if what you do really matters.

And my third piece of advice is always make sure you’re aligning your dreams with Jesus. He calls us to seasons of being busy but he also calls us to seasons of being still. Maybe he wants you to keep going. Maybe he wants you to be still. Maybe he’s asking you to pivot because he has another plan. Keep checking your heart and surrendering those dreams to him. He’ll never let you down.

If any of this resonates with you, I hope you know that even if you have no one cheering for you, what you’re doing matters and you have so much to give. Don’t give up because your dream doesn’t make sense to someone else. It was never supposed to make sense to them in the first place. ☺️

You are enough.

Yes, you.

I know this world may try to tell you that you have to do more, be more, achieve more.

But you are enough as you are right now.

I know you might have had someone show you or tell you that you aren’t worthy or deserving of love or friendship.

But you are enough as you are right now.

I know you have probably felt incapable and like there’s no possible way you could be strong enough to do the hard thing in front of you.

But you are enough as you are right now.

Because the truth is, anytime we put our worth in a person, a career, a thing, or the opinions of others, we will never feel like we are enough. We will always be left with wanting more validation because we are seeking our worthiness from a source that can not possibly show us our value.

I’m here to say that you, right now, as you are right this moment, are enough because Jesus says you are. He takes any shortcomings, failures, or brokenness upon himself and he fills it with himself, which is always enough. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the last 31 years on this earth it’s that no matter where I find myself, he is enough, and I am enough in him.

In the valley when I feel like my feet can’t go another step, he is enough.

On the mountain tops when my heart is so filled with joy and thankfulness, he is enough.

In life’s failures and defeats when I feel like I can’t even look up, he is enough.

And through his fullness...he shows me that nothing else really matters. And that I am enough in him.

So when the world says more, more, more, quiet those voices and remind your heart...you are enough.

Have you ever just seen a couple so in love and so meant for each other in every way?

That’s Kevin and Ava for me.

I have been in the wedding industry for about 5 years now and I have seen so many beautiful couples that are so in love. It is always such an honor to capture that love and tell it in story form through the eyes of my lens.

When I first talked to Kevin and Ava back in 2019 before the world decided to go crazy, none of us knew the hurtles we would jump through to make this celebration happen. I took their engagement session on the beach with their dogs in California and I quickly noticed their connection.

It’s not just goo goo eyes for each other (I see that a lot too and it’s always so cute). But it’s a deep respect and love. The way Kevin looks at Ava is enough to melt the coldest of souls.

We rescheduled this beautiful celebration that was meant for 2020. And, in many ways, I’m glad we did. I think it brought so much depth and gratitude to be able to celebrate such a beautiful union with so many that they hold dear. None of us knew that it would happen, but all of us felt such a deep thankfulness that it did.

So, on June 11th and 12th, we all gathered to witness and celebrate the beautiful union of Kevin and Ava. We laughed, and cried. We reminisced and celebrated. And I can honestly say it is a wedding I won’t ever forget because of who they both are.

Have you ever had an entire day that felt like you were living in Murphy’s Law?

“Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”

I feel like I’ve been having some of those days lately and when I first started having them, I would let the emotions of that day completely overwhelm me. I would become a frozen ball of anxiety, unable to see the good or feel like I could do anything to change my circumstances.

Lately, Jesus has been teaching me that while rest and self care are essential to mental health...so is doing very difficult things in the midst of the storm. There might be so much piling up around you and you might feel overwhelmed. But instead of looking at everything that you have to do as one huge and daunting thing, try looking at the next thing you can do. One small thing to move the needle forward.

As I have put this into practice in the last week...tasks have seemed less daunting, my mind is less overwhelmed, and I can look up and find myself getting into a rhythm of overcoming even when so many difficult things are happening around me.

Instead of making excuses, I find myself creating solutions. Instead of wanting to quit for the day, I find myself pivoting and finding a new way to do something. Instead of feeling like it won’t get better, I know that it will when my attitude becomes one that is thankful.

What is causing you to feel frozen or overwhelmed today? Maybe you’ve had a day that feels like everything that can go wrong will go wrong. How are you going to pivot to remind yourself that you are strong and capable. That a bad day, week, month, or let’s face it—year doesn’t and will not have power over you and your ability to see the good and be thankful no matter the circumstances. Today I want to remind you that you are strong. You are capable. And you can overcome.

What if we all gave up the glorification of busy?

As kids, I feel it’s engrained in us. We are raised to believe that if you’re busy, you’re accomplishing something. If you’re busy, you’re doing something right. If you’re busy, you’re a leader.

But God reminded me this year of how he feels about being busy.

First off, I want to say, there is a time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3). You can’t survive without working. And I do believe God gives us purposes and dreams that he plants in our hearts that when we accomplish them they give him glory. And I believe he values hard work.

But if we look at the life and ministry of Jesus, we see a different pattern than what the world has taught us. One that accomplished the will of the Father, but one that got away to be alone with the Father to rest. Even when God created the world, he rested on the 7th day. I think the biggest thing that sets Jesus apart in this is that he was intentional with his time. He didn’t hurry around just to keep himself busy. He performed miracles, met with his disciples, and spent time alone with the Father. It was all purposeful, intentional, and still accomplished what he set out to do.

If the same God who created the universe, who keeps everything in motion, and watches over us all, rested...what makes me think I don’t have to. I have been so convicted lately to create a rhythm of rest. Where my family sees me not only working hard and chasing the dreams God has given me. But also creating a rhythm where they know that He matters above all the goals, plans, and dreams. And where they know they matter more too.

Balancing this is so hard. It’s a constant battle to untangle the idea that busy is best. But if you’re struggling with this like I have been, you’re not alone. Give yourself grace and know that learning a rhythm of rest can go a long way in accomplishing much more than the constant busy ever will. And as a bonus it will help keep burn out away! Let’s try to be intentional with the time we have been given and watch as our hearts begin to shift from earth focused to heaven focused.

What is your absolute favorite quote?

I am someone who loves quotes, words of affirmation, and encouragement. Words have the power to build or destroy, heal or wound, and accept or refuse. No matter how you look at it, words hold so much power. The Bible compares our words to a tiny rudder that steers a huge ship. I don’t know about you, but I feel this saying is amplified when I scroll through social media. It can be discouraging and hard to see but today I thought it would be neat to have you share your favorite quote and spread a little of your joy and love so others can see. And just to make sure everyone CAN see it, I’ll make a story for each quote in my stories.

So leave a comment below to spread a little joy today!

I’ll leave you with my favorite quote that has stuck with me for over a decade as a reminder of how I want to live.

“I’m just a little pencil in the hands of a God writing a love letter to the world.” - unknown.

Have you ever made a mistake or have something go completely wrong in your business/life?

Well, I just had one of the biggest problems I’ve ever had in my business recently and it was really devastating. I couldn’t eat, I lost sleep, and I worked tirelessly trying to figure out a solution. And in the end I had to admit defeat and move forward.

Something my husband said to me during that time is, “it’s not about making mistakes but how you handle them when they happen.”

I hate messing up. I hate disappointing people. Even if something that happened was out of my control, I still beat myself up so much. I would like to think I am quick to extend grace to others with the same grace God extends to me. But in that moment God reminded me that I need to extend that same grace to myself.

It’s good to hold ourselves to a high standard. But when mistakes happen, learning how to grow and not give up is crucial.
Is it humbling? Yes.
Does it make you feel frustrated and defeated? Yes.
Does it define you? No.
Does it take away your ability to still succeed? Only if you let it.

I hope you remember today that mistakes and disappointments are a part of life. And if they are a part of life, you just might find they are a part of business too. But you are worthy of grace in the mess of it all. Remember that the way you handle the mistakes, disappointments, and setbacks is actually what sets you apart to succeed in the long run.

Don’t give up! You’ve got this. ❤️

What would happen if we didn’t let fear and comparison keep us from going after our dreams?

I’m sitting here watching my 7 week old pup take on my 7 year old dog. She’s SO tiny compared to my other dog, but she doesn’t let that stop her. She doesn’t get scared but continues to play fight with everything she’s got. 🤣 And I love it!

It might be a weird analogy, but I was thinking, what if I treated how I operate in life and business the way my little pup fearlessly plays with my older dog, even though she’s 5 times bigger than her.

I think as creatives, we always have to remember we aren’t going to be:
-the best
-the most talented
-the most creative
-the most liked
-the most successful
And that’s ok. The most important thing is that we put ourselves out there, fearlessly give our creativity a chance to grow, surround ourselves with people who are where we want to be, and watch as we grow and thrive.

My mission is to never get to a place where I feel like I need to stop learning. Because once I have, there’s no more growth. There’s always going to be someone who I can learn and grow from.

Humility and bravery go a long way! Put yourself out there and watch as you begin to grow. And then pay it forward by teaching those who look up to you and are wanting to learn from you. If you push competition aside and nurture community, it is a beautiful thing that will completely kick comparison to the curb!

So if you’re feeling like you don’t measure up, find someone to learn from, grow like crazy, nurture community with those around you, and watch as your comparison turns into a huge cheering session for those around you!

Ok g2g break up this play fight! Bye!

Hello!

I just wanted to take a second to share some really fun work I was able to shoot a few weeks ago and to say thank you to each and every one of you.

If you haven’t noticed lately, I’ve been a little MIA with sharing on here. That’s for a few reasons but one of the main reasons is because I have been super swamped with editing and weddings. When the fall/winter of 2020 hit, my second shooter () and I were out almost every weekend shooting weddings! I also got to travel to some really fun places I’ve always wanted to shoot at and had a blast making memories and creating just for fun.

So if you’ve stayed around from the beginning, joined along the way, or just started following...thank you! Thank you for cheering me on, hitting the like and save buttons, and encouraging me to continue pursing my dreams.

Even though social media took a back seat, I’ve been working hard in the background and taking time to love on my family. But I’m so excited to share some really fun things and bring you all along for the 2021 wedding year. It’s going to be awesome!

Also a huge thank you to .holmgren and for modeling for and I at the Santa Monica Pier! And for letting me hold your baby while we took your photos. She’s literally an angel! My camera loves you guys! ❤️

This past weekend was something always wanted to do but never knew how to put it into action. If you saw my stories, you’ll know I was all over the state of California with my good friend ! We had two sessions a day, sometimes hours away from each other, running on a little food and a whole lot of caffeine.

If you’re a photographer and you’ve always had a dream destination to shoot in, go shoot there! I always had a hard time wrapping my brain around the logistics of how, when, where, and what if’s. But then I decided to just do it! To just go for it, make connections, and shoot in some of my favorite locations I’ve only dreamed of shooting in...until now!

Dreams are beautiful, and when they come true...it’s amazing! But I want to remind you that the in between of every start of a dream and seeing it come into fruition is a lot of freakin work that you don’t see.

So if you feel like everyone’s highlight reels are getting to you and you’re the only one grinding every day to see those dream become a reality, I just want to remind you to keep going. Keep pressing on when you feel like quitting. Keep turning into the Lord when you’re not sure which way to turn. Keep speaking life over yourself because words have power and you are more than capable with Jesus. And know that through the ups and downs of it all, you’re dreams are beautiful and worth taking a risk for!

And here’s a photo of me laughing hysterically at myself for even trying to pose for a photo. Thank you for snapping the pic for me! ❤️

Let’s talk enneagram and business!

If you don’t know, the enneagram is a personality assessment that is scary accurate. Once you find out your number, you’re amazed/exposed all at once. 😂 One thing that I’ve found to be super helpful in knowing my number is applying it to my business and how I run things. I also have a fascination for understanding and empathizing with others so I’ve learned so much about every number. I actually know people of every number so it helps me to understand and relate to people once I know they’re numbers. One neat fact is that Meyers-Briggs can actually change throughout your lifetime, but the enneagram stays the same forever. It dates back to biblical times and is a really useful tool in self discovery.

One thing that has been super beneficial to me is using the enneagram in relation to my professional life. Once you know what your habits are when you aren’t in a good spot, it helps you to correct and do things that bring you back to you again.

I thought it would be really neat to post each number and go over the strengths and weaknesses directly related to how that number operates in a professional setting.

I’ll be doing a series of posts that highlight each number and go over the strengths and weaknesses as it relates to business and life. If you want to keep up and make sure not to miss your number, turn on those post notifications so you don’t miss it!

If you don’t know your enneagram, go take an online test to find out! And if you do know it, let me know in the comments below!

Happy weekend!

I want to end this work week sharing what I’m thankful for and I want to hear from you as well!

This week I’m so thankful for the clarity the Lord gives and how spending time in His word brings peace no matter what is happening around me. When I became a mom, I struggled with staying diligent in the word every day because life happens and it can be overwhelming. But God knows our hearts and sees our struggle. And the moment we come back to Him, he is there with a smile and open arms.

I’ve been committing my mornings to spending time with him and sharing the encouragement he shares with me because we can all use a little light in this dark world. It’s been so fruitful and beneficial to my heart as I learn to let go of perfection and trust in his love for me.

So today I’m thankful that no matter what my life looks like or the mess I feel I’m in, Jesus reaches in, cleans me off, and shows me what HE thinks about me. And that is all that matters in the end.

What are you thankful for? ⬇️
