Here is the story. Please look through all the pictures to the end. We have a nest across the street in the trees of red shoulder hawk juveniles. There are three of them and they are so cute. I went over in the morning and took just some of them popping up in their nest. The oldest of them is attempting to stretch wings and hop a bit like getting ready to fly fly. Getting close. I went back in the afternoon and mom was there feeding them. As long as I just stood and watched, she was fine, but once I raised my camera, she fled to another branch and sqwacked something fierce. I put the camera down and she just kept an eye on me. I moved to another location for a different angle and she was back in the nest picking at some pray that she had captured feeding her little ones. I lifted the camera and she flew back to the other tree. Once again, very unhappy with me. then she flew to a tree directly in front of me and headed right towards me. She swooped over my head about 5 inches. The last two images are her heading to me. I didn’t want to upset her and it seemed to be the camera that was the concern. so I lowered the camera and left. Not sure what it was about the camera that was upsetting. I tried my best being very calm, serene and peaceful. Such an interesting experience. Nature is amazing. I am so grateful to have this opportunity right in my neighborhood.

This little guy was so comfortable with me spending about an hr just capturing all expressions and behaviors. I also haven’t seen one with these colors. So beautiful! .

Toque macaque monkey. An old world monkey in Sri Lanka. Amazing how much such an image evokes the human emotions. We are animals also and as such a part of nature. It’s good to be reminded of that in a visceral way as we are so often lost in the technical comforts of the world we made.

In California at the moment and had a week of rains. A bit of flooding here along the Russian River. The points sticking out of the water are the tops of a vineyard!!
