Thankful for... NGL... my parking pass.

It's cold, man. In most of the last 17 years, I had to have a loooong walk in or take a shuttle into my building. For 11 months now, I've enjoyed the absolutely quickest jaunt into my building, and I've *really, truly* loved it, and I'm so grateful. I'll have to give it up soon, but for now I'm just thankful.

Thankful for humanity.

We all may be boiled down to a number and the world may be full of 1️⃣s and 0️⃣s and the constant search for the bottom line, but I still see humanity pop up in between the spaces of the letters R, O, and I (Return on Investment). It feels harder to show that you genuinely care about someone without coming off as soft and lacking backbone or the courage to say something in the moment but I do see examples of authentic humanity still shining through in what are otherwise cold and sometimes corporate feeling interactions. What that looks like in practice is maybe a senior leader taking a few moments to privately coach their subordinate or mentee on remembering that there is a human on the other side of their email, or in a larger leadership meeting giving just two sentences to the idea that as leaders we should be checking in with our employees . It can also look like the deeeeep breath a parent takes, allowing their whole world to be put on hold so their child may take the time they need to learn something new to them, or hold back from doing it for them, because it is better to learn in a safe space, with people in their corner, right around the corner, should they need them.

Zoom in not only on the toddler curls, but also the tell-tale sign of being a "girl dad" -- someone had a manicure before this hike.

Thankful for creativity.

I was going to post a different gratitude, but after really looking at this photo, I paused and marveled at how these clouds look/act like water waves. If I was looking at this photo with one rigid point of view, I'd miss out on so much. Thankful that I get to see things in endless different lights. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: photography is free therapy!

Thankful for space to pivot.

I did *not* plan this... this little girl (now a pr***en 😭) is spinning at the top of a wooded mountain trail. Don't know what's off to the left and right. Difficult terrain, can't see around the corner... hungry, feet hurt. But still enjoying it, because it's an adventure. This is my 2025. 2025 has been harsh, still, I am enjoying the climb... and work. It's *work* to pivot like this. HARD work.

Thankful for everyone who has supported me in my corner. Thankful I even *got the chance* to pivot. Thankful I finally allowed myself to do it. As someone told me yesterday, this has been a loooong time in the making.

Thankful for sun-filled mornings.

This is not a sunrise; it's a sunset, but I walked back into my (redone in 2023) kitchen with the morning sun absolutely streaming in, and it *might* be my favorite part of the reno. That, or off-bedroom laundry. It's a toss-up. The reward to those who take early morning commutes, some mornings, is a sun-filled sky.

Thankful for the gift of time, just like the song title says.

Thankful for the past year that has allowed me to escape, pivot, recover, and, ultimately, start healing. My mama said time heals all. In it's way, it does. Thankful for everyone who has stuck with me. As this deer path through the Vermont woods would symbolize, the journey starts now. Time to take a step forward. In and through to the other side.

Thankful for holiday magic.

Thankful for the ability to create so many moments that will last forever. From continuing traditions to new experiences. From fleeting, ethereal moments to the the feel of the entire season. From surprise and wonder to familiar, comfortable, and coooooozy. Christmas lights, refreshing coolness, endless giving opportunities, visitors from the North Pole, baking that really only happens once a year, and, again, the expectation and ability to slow it down.

Also thankful for this piece of a rainbow in 2024 -- a promise -- over the very waters where a special lady lived for many decades and built a beautiful life 🌊

Thankful for holiday magic.

Thankful for the ability to create so many moments that will last forever. From continuing traditions to new experiences. For fleeting moments to the the feel of the entire season. Thankful for the holidays.

It sure is a smart thing to do to schedule all these holiday slow down times during the drab and weary weather months. Not only is it yucky outside but the sun isn't shining as much. And that is kind of a big deal as it affects not only our mood but our health as well. We have commercialized the holidays a bit which adds stress that probably wasn't intended to be there but the holiday season does give us permission to slow things down and take breaks from the day-in, day-out rigmarole of regular routine life. Thankful for the holidays, and what they try to bring us - light, hope, and peace.

Continuation of our jaunt up to the Okemo Mountain summit, where my groom and I got married.
