Why your invitation suite matters more than you may realize. Not only does it set the tone for your guests, but it is also one of the first things I photograph on your wedding day. The colors, texture, font, images, even the loose stems from your florist all come together to establish your vision. Whether that be delicate and whimsical or clean and modern, I have noticed that invitations are a reflection of your day and your final gallery in many ways.

By day vs by night 🥂 Would you believe me if I told you these rehearsal dinner photo sets were taken only 30 minutes apart? TIMING IS EVERYTHING. When shooting an evening event, I like to make sure to photograph the details in the lighting as guests arrive as well as after the sun sets to capture the romantic candlelight atmosphere they will remember most!

No fancy hook, let’s get right into it- this is the most important question to ask a photographer during your wedding consultation: “HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY”.
You may look a website or social media feed and think “I love those photos” but understanding how a photographer gets there on your wedding day is more important. And trust me, there is someone for everyone! Photographers might take a more editorial or posed approach on your day and help guide perfect shots. Or they may have a journalistic approach that allows you to be fully present and capture moments as they unfold naturally. Either way, think of how you want to remember your wedding day and don’t skip that phone consultation, it can change everything!

It was two years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. There are some moments, some couples, some details that you know will stay with you for life. Laken and Tyler’s wedding day was truly something special. It was filled with tears of beauty and honor. It carried peace and grace. Their wedding was so much bigger than a celebration, it was truly a reflection of God’s love. I’ll never forget my initial phone consultation with Laken and her mom. I cried on the call with them. Yes, cried! Never before and never again has that happened (I was three months postpartum but honestly it would have happened regardless). Our call lasted an hour, we talked about the wedding of course but beyond that we talked about God, the blessing of family, and our heart to put God first and at the center of everything we do. I knew that even if they didn’t book me for the wedding day, that phone call was worth every minute of my time and attention. I am so honored that I got to photograph their wedding and more significantly witness their marriage. It’s not something that I take lightly as a photographer. Your vows, your commitment, speeches, dances, so many moments throughout a wedding stay with me and I’m just so grateful for what I do.

The days of low aperture for a blurred out background are long gone and let me tell you why. The venue, the architecture, the background, are all a PART of your day- let’s remember what it looked like. I remember when a 1.4f was the dream shot. The subject in focus and the rest was a blur. It felt like the ultimate “professional” shot, and yes it still has that effect. But when I look at a photo today, I want to know what was all around you. I want to capture the venue and scenery in its full glory!

Why mindset matters 👏🏼 Have you read “Atomic Habits”? It’s one of my favorite books, especially if you have a goal and you want to shift your mindset to really accomplish it. Anytime I have told myself “I am ___” then my habits have naturally followed that mindset. For example, if I say, “I am a healthy person” then I typically stay focused on the gym and eating healthy. If I say, “I am a happy person”, naturally I see my mood lift. The identity you speak over yourself will determine your habits so let’s go into this weekend with a positive mindset and watch how beautifully life unfolds! God is on your side!

Me + You + Sunset 🤝 Here’s why your timeline planning matters. Lighting is everything and can completely determine the mood of your photos. Chances are, you are doing a first look which allows you to spend more time with each other and with your guests on your wedding day. But it also means your portraits are probably when the sun is at its most intense. So if your timeline allows, take a few more photos just before the sun sets to add some romantic portraits to your gallery along with a special moment for the two of you to enjoy!
