Have you ever grown Luffa? This is my first year growing it and wow! It is thriving! This jungle is being created by 2 super healthy plants and 2 that are not as big, but still growing nicely. I planted them in March and this is what I’ve got so far. They take about 1 year for their whole cycle. The vines will die back & the “fruit” will dry on the vine. Then, I’ll cut them off & peel the dried brown skin to reveal the natural sponge inside. Since the flowers popped out a few months ago, they are covered with ladybugs, bees, wasps and butterflies all day long. I love it so much! A few times a day, I’ll go out to just look at it and all the life buzzing about.

Oooh Father’s Day. Every year, I think it will get easier but it doesn’t. It just doesn’t.

It has never been an easy holiday for me as my relationship with my biological father was bumpy for much of my life. Then, my mom brought Steve into our lives and he made his mark in the stepdad category in my adulthood. We became very close, talking almost daily before he died unexpectedly…on Father’s Day.

A few weeks before Steve died (2009), my father chose to get clean, having battled drug addiction since I was 5 years old. This time it stuck. He remained clean & sober for the remainder of his life. A wonderful gift because this, and the fact that I forgave him all the things I’d held onto, allowed us to build a wonderful father/daughter relationship.

I am eternally grateful for both of my fathers. I was so loved by them both.

Happy Father’s Day to those who have their dads, miss their dads or never knew their dads. I feel you.

We are all works of art. The Dalí, the Salvador Dali museum, is definitely worth a visit! The Dali 360 was awesome, too. To see hi art come to life and be immersed in it was amazing. I didn’t realize how much art he created in his long lifespan. Just amazing! It was fun to see the evolution of his work.

It’s been awhile, friends.

I’ve had 2 years and a lifetime of grief and trauma that I’ve been working through.

Healing is messy and beautiful and necessary, for me.

After my uncle died in May, a weight I didn’t realize I’d been carrying lifted.

June is a challenging month for me. It holds my father’s clean & sober anniversary and Father’s Day which is also the death anniversary of my stepdad, Steve.

Beginning on the Summer Solstice, my body has been purging, detoxing and grieving. Physically, I’ve been going through it with a variety of challenges in my wellness. All manageable with antibiotics, natural remedies and rest.

I know it’s a process. Grief and healing show up in weird places, times & situations.

I’m still grieving the deaths of 8 of my people who died between June 2021 and May 2023.

I’m also grieving the death of the version of myself who I was with all of those people.

Because of the things I’ve learned through these death experiences, I’m shifting and growing and allowing parts of myself that no longer serve to die as well.

I am grieving, healing, and learning to love myself as I move to and through this new part of my journey.

Who I was got me here. Who I am becoming is still unearthing herself. To break through the old mold is taking some time.
