In a flash, lightning strikes the earth. In a split second its gone, leaving only the remnants of its presence in a thunderous boom and shockwave.
If you know me, I like to draw lessons from nature and share that wisdom here. If lightning has taught me anything, it's how fleeting our existence is. And while we only have a short time, the impact we leave can still be remarkable and beautiful.

I think of close family I've lost over the years, and how much their influence still resonates through the universe. We are powerful, influential, thunderous, and we are fleeting.
Use this flash of existence well.

Thinking of Pakistan. The archeological ruins we had the privilege to wander were 1000s of years old. Originally created by Buddhist followers, they've had many inhabitants. Including a speculative and curious couple of American travelers. I think we left with more questions than we started. An experience that will be held forever.

The moodiness of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is unrivaled. Of all the mountains I've traveled, the Sierras will forever have my heart.

I've spent so much time there they've almost become a second home. And it's times like these that feel magical and surreal, like you're almost on another planet.

Victorian forests. The Pacific Northwest is truly a place to behold. The trees even feel different. This scene was something I've been wanting to capture for a long time, so it only seems fitting that it happens on a spontaneous unplanned hike.

Santa Cruz Island. One of the last slices of wilderness left. Thanks to the conservancy and this place has been preserved for our pristine enjoyment.

Plan your trip early to view the island, book a kayaking tour, and reserve your campground!

Catch a ferry with and make a trip to remember. This place needs to get on our bucket list!

The Blood Moon Eclipse. If you didn't get to see it or were unlucky enough to have cloud cover. Here is what my 400 mm telephoto was able to capture!

This photo didn't come without challenges. In fact, when you're using a lens with that range, the moon almost moves too fast to capture the detail with less than a second of exposure. So I had to adjust the settings accordingly to produce the image here. Normally I don't post my camera settings but I thought this was deserving.

ISO: 2000
SS: 3/4 second
Aperture : 4.0

The lone fisher finds a friend. It wasn't soon after I snapped the first photo, a buddy showed up and they swooped over this kelp forest. Honestly I love both of these photos.. and I can't decide which one I like more.. what are your thoughts?

On the hunt for materials. When I walk through the desert I'm always afraid of the lack of resources available. It's only a matter of time before you dehydrate / starve right?

Here we are in the high desert stumbling across an incredible feast of Snake Lily (aka blue dicks / Indian potatoes).

Always keep an eye on the ground, you'll never know whats hidden beneath your feet!

Photo dump from Indian Creek a year and a half ago. Simpler times.

As my knee has been healing, I've been reflecting on these adventures more and more. How necessary they are to keep us humble, appreciative, and full of life.

Thanks to everyone who's been encouraging and shown love. I appreciate you. And let's start planning the next trip!

Some things we glaze over unaware of their value. A little reflection and a different perspective can do a lot. This photo is a testament. Sitting on my hard drive for years, and only now am I realizing how beautiful it actually is!
