Zara is a new graduate and came to my Pacific Grove studio for professional headshots for her LinkedIn profile. We talked through background colors together and she chose dark gray, which has become a very popular choice for professional headshots. Since she liked the background, we created variety through a wardrobe and pose change for her headshots.

One thing I really like about shooting tethered in the studio is that clients can see their headshots live on the big screen as we make them. That means feedback is instant, and so are adjustments to poses, expressions, wardrobe, or even the background. Zara could actually see what was working during the session rather than waiting until afterward. She is now using one of the finished headshots on her LinkedIn profile, which is always great to see.

Rip reached out to me about photographing a surprise proposal, and we spent some time figuring out just the right location. After considering a few options, including permission to photograph there and where I could stay close enough to capture the moment without being so obvious that I spoiled the surprise, we chose the Carmel Meadows Trail area.

We even came up with a signal Rip would give me when he was about to propose. Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans! I was still making my way down toward them and completely missed the signal. Then I suddenly saw Rip get down on one knee. Luckily, I already had both cameras ready, including one with a telephoto lens, and was able to start photographing the real proposal as it happened.

That is the thing about a live photo shoot. I basically have to be ready from the moment I step out of my car because you never know exactly how things are going to unfold. I am very glad it all worked out, and thank you very much to Rip for trusting me to photograph such an important moment. Congratulations Taylor and Rip!

This was one of the most creative and collaborative video projects I have worked on. Renada came to Monterey with a clear vision for her dream pink Cadillac experience, and together we turned it into a lifestyle experience video combining professional ground video and drone video from Monterey down the Big Sur coast.

Afterward, she left me an amazing 5 star review and wrote that what I created was “truly a piece of art.” That meant a lot because this was such a personal and creative project.

It is kind of amazing that Jason Kushy and I have already worked together on five branding photo shoots in about a year and a half! In that time we have created photos in my studio, inside a recording studio, out on the streets of Pacific Grove, and now back in studio again, always collaborating on new ideas and finding different ways to represent Jason and his music.

Jason quickly became one of my most valued repeat clients, and it really means a lot to me that as his career as a DJ and producer continues to grow, he continues to choose me as his photographer. His music has now passed 1 million combined streams, along with chart success on Beatport, and it has been really rewarding watching that growth happen and getting to play a small part in creating the photography that represents him along the way.

For this latest shoot I created both color and black and white versions of several portraits, but for this post I wanted to feature just four of the black and white images. I really like how removing the color changes the feeling of these photographs and puts even more emphasis on Jason, the lighting, expression, and overall artist look.

Five shoots together already, and hopefully many more to come. Thank you so much Jason for continuing to choose me as your photographer!

Starting a shoot at 9pm on a Friday is definitely not my usual schedule, haha, but that was exactly the right time to make this marketing video for Deja Blue in Seaside. The club was full, the band was playing live, drinks were being made behind the bar, and there was plenty of real energy in the room to capture with my camera and gimbal.

Most of what you see in the video was not staged. The musicians were performing live, customers were actually enjoying their Friday night, and much of the staff footage was captured as things were naturally happening behind the bar. We did add a few staged pouring and action shots, but the goal was to show what a real night at Deja Blue actually feels like.

That is one of the things I like most about video for restaurants, bars, clubs, and hospitality businesses. A potential customer can see the atmosphere, people, movement, drinks, entertainment, and overall experience before they ever walk through the door.

Thank you to the Deja Blue staff for being great to work with, and to the band for bringing the place to life!

It was great to be back working with Gonzalo and Peninsula Construction for my second construction drone video project with them.

This Pebble Beach job site was especially enjoyable to fly because the backyard renovation was visually interesting, with a new deck and putting green taking shape, and the site itself gave me unusually good flying conditions. There were trees around the property, but none directly overhead, no power lines in the way, and Gonzalo’s crew was actively working on the deck, which let me get the drone in closer to the action while also making wider establishing shots from above.

I really appreciate Gonzalo and Peninsula Construction continuing to choose me for construction photography and drone video, and I am looking forward to returning to this property again once the project is finished.

It was exciting when Hare Construction asked me to capture drone video of a huge crane hoisting steel beams over one of their Pebble Beach construction projects. Since the crane lifted multiple beams, I had several chances to find dramatic aerial angles, including flying under the crane arm once and getting closer views of the crew attaching the steel beams for each lift. I really appreciate when people that know me choose me as their photographer! So when asked me to make personal branding photos for her law practice, I was very glad for the opportunity.

We waited for the right evening with a good golden hour along the Pacific Grove coast and with assisting by and Crystal's two daughters, it was a true team effort making these photos!

I always like when Airbnb clients want to stage rooms, as it makes the shoot not only more fun and creative for me, it makes their Airbnb listing also more attractive and eye catching or potential guests.

A recent Airbnb photo shoot in Seaside was an example of that, as Steven wanted to go well beyond simply getting the standard wide photos of every room and have staged photos as well.
